The issue with the claim
*the filters don’t work* is that you are proving an absence of evidence, not an underlying fundamental.
*Some* spam-transactions and non-standard transactions get confirmed *despite* the filter(s), this does not prove the filters are ineffective.
What don’t they work at? Stopping spam transactions completely? Okay.
Are they not effective at *deterrence*?
How could you possibly prove this?
The moment they are turned off by default we will find out if there is evidence, and many people are extremely uncomfortable with that.
This is why Core 29 is not being run despite “developer consensus”.

Thank you so much for this Bitcoin And... episode and also for the related one interviewing Liminal. The same themes and great ideas and inspiration has also surfaced in those podcast episodes of yours in which Obsidian is discussed. So much to think about. There is so much nuance and so many rich edges in the new landscape being opened up for us in Nostr and similar tech stacks. I appreciate the hard work you have done in putting a dent into revealing the power (as in empowering) and characteristics of Nostr and it's exponential potential to reboot our world and time.

I have always found it a challenge to file my notes, writings, drawings in the "correct" folder, file or pile since they NEVER usually just lived in one theme, topic, project, folder, file... I think that the tools and way of doing/looking at things which you remind me of, or have introduced me to, will greatly facilitate in organizing, editing, reworking and revealing surprising connections in my pile of writings and drawings which i have amassed over the decades and am now trying to move and group/package to fruitful ends. Since i am not amassing so many more new writings now and am, instead, in the distilling and organizing phase, i am looking forward to what can come out of using a tool like Nostr to facilitate that proces. The challenge is also how to best work all this together given that i swim in both the analogue (paper, pen(cil), drawing, printed) and digital, internet, online world.

Getting some more snippets of the technical details of Nostr's many different kinds, events, media type and what requirements or elements make up an event/note/type was useful and invites me to want to delve further into this juicy world. I am still trying to grasp and catch up with the Nostr lingo, though i am confident in what i have and can already do and sometimes even see the golden thread linking back to the fundamentals, founding principles of IT, computers and of the freedom and simple power of the internet in its earlier manifestations.

Perhaps a nice simple statement about Nostr--from the perspective of a very early beginner--is that there appear to be much fewer (or no) layers--e.g./i.e.: technology, permissions, trust, deceit, control, manipulation) between oneself and the Nostr network/technology. It was fascinating to learn in John Michael Greer's book, "The Retro Future: Looking to the Past to Reinvent the Future", about how one can choose, mix, match, customize, design, integrate,... the tools, technologies, worldviews, ways of living, (sub)cultures,... desired. These can include: the same or different cultural norms; the characteristics and what is done by in your particular cultural-geographic place; or from a particular time in history to be mimicked or or pulled from. Nostr would be one of those options or tech stacks in my particular lifestyle design* palette, table of contents, quiver or menu. Anyways, the author explains it way more eloquently than i. I love how you challenge the "superiority" of the mainstream, centralized, walled gardens of the large social medias and show that they are really infantile attempts and highly manipulated compared to the open, exploring, emergent of Nostr--even though temporaly and as far as network effect, Nostr is in its infancy. The non-liinearity and emergent characteristics of such systems as Nostr and the new flow of information is hugely attractive, mind shattering with its unexpected connections and revelations. Thank you for providing and explaining the various tools and pattern language of this creating, sharing and emergence of media--including to remind us that the hierarchical and logical flow and set up of documents/media can be just as important as the non-linear. The more I explore Nostr—especially clients like Primal—the more limited it feels in some ways. I really prefer Damus overall, but I do like Primal’s Explore page.
I’ve tried Nostur, still getting used to it. Also heard some chatter about Yakihonne—curious to try it out.

Here’s how it works, in the simplest terms: it uses nostr (any relay, doesn't matter which one, in fact the more the better) to host encrypted events that are visible only to members of your community. These events are then decrypted and stored on a local-only relay. Any new event sent to that local relay is encrypted the same way and then broadcast back out to the network.

So to as long consensus is not broken and mempool doesn't get a bit too weird due to how many diff nodes running different mempool policy to the point making things harder for everyone in the end.
What is more important here is that CORE devs or any dev should not hold too much influence and arbitrary enforcement of what should or should not be done.
Thinks like node runners wanting to cast a vote against all this spam is important politically even if they don't have strong immediate effect at technical level.
Keeping everyone in check is important for Bitcoin's anti-fragile nature specially when bigger opponents arise to attack bitcoin.

I went down a crazy path this morning, seeing how much work it would be to turn MastoThreads into a more usable web client for Mastodon.
I think I could get there with enough work, but it quickly revealed how many edge cases and little interactions I would need to support, and it's taking away from the main point of the web app, which is to post threads in a more focused interface, so I don't think I'll be pursuing this.
It was fun to get this far, though!

Technically filters may not work as we all wished but socially they are working.
Certainly all this is raising eyebrows and awareness to some of the problems.
We all need to remain vigilant and small things like grandstanding on top of OP_RETURN filter may not yield concrete impact on the technical and working layers of the network but does have social impact and steers discussions towards ongoing problems even to the attention of those less aware about of all this and now catching up and becoming more interested in the subject.
Thing that all this net positive.

Users reported intermittent internet slowdowns. Suspected wireless backhaul to building. During physical inspection noticed 110v electric fan running nearby. Network cable feeding AP ran within 12 inches of the motor. Turned off fan, internet speeds increased, no user complaints since. Will either reroute the cable or move the fan.

obviously there will tx for essentials.
but theres a spectrum
and erring completely on the other end of that spectrum is equally stupid.
ideally
the number of monetary units would generally track with economic growth and there would be stable prices.
