By "political" let's just be clear: They swung to the Right.
IMHO bitcoin's politics are naturally at least somewhat libertarian. But in this last US election cycle many libertarians shifted towards Trump, and I think bitcoiners got "pushed along" by this tide.
This can probably be seen as part of a broader reaction to aggressive regulatory actions by the Biden administration, which extended not only to crypto but many other areas of Tech. This is why people like Marc Andreessen were in the tank for Trump.
But I think this was a mistake. Marc Adreessen can't avoid politics; he exists in a world of centralized corporate structures. Bitcoin, in contrast, doesn't *need* political favor to succeed. And as we're all seeing now, Trump is a quixotic ally at best, and a maelstrom of economic destruction at worst.

After Stripe had already caused issues with the very first payment to my business account, PayPal has now followed suit, also blocking the first incoming payment and demanding extra documents. So my client and I immediately switched to Bitcoin and handled it permissionlessly.
Not long after, I shut down my PayPal account. For the cancellation reason (inspired by my client's email), I wrote:
"Far too invasive for a payment provider. Thanks for helping speed up Bitcoin adoption with your practices!"
From this point on, I accept international payments exclusively in Bitcoin or, in rare cases, via direct SEPA bank transfer maybe with Bitwage in between for clients in Europe.

For me, desire is more active, almost a burning passion concept. Like, it's several levels over the "need" level. And it's mostly physical, but that may be just my love language talking.
I can imagine that some (maybe even most) people have just a need to be "needed"; for me (and I would argue for most who have physical contact as primary language) there is a neverending yearning to be desired.
