VMware Perpetual License Holders Receive Cease-And-Desist Letters From Broadcom
An anonymous reader quotes a report from Ars Technica: Broadcom has been sending cease-and-desist letters to owners of VMware perpetual licenses with expired support contracts, Ars Technica has confirmed. Following its November 2023 acquisition of VMware, Broadcom ended VMware perpetual license sales. Users with perpetual licenses can still use the software they bought, but they are unable to renew support services unless they had a pre-existing contract enabling them to do so. The controversial move aims to push VMware users to buy subscriptions to VMware products bundled such that associated costs have increased by 300 percent or, in some cases, more. Some customers have opted to continue using VMware unsupported, often as they research alternatives, such as VMware rivals or devirtualization.
Over the past weeks, some users running VMware unsupported have reported receiving cease-and-desist letters from Broadcom informing them that their contract with VMware and, thus, their right to receive support services, has expired. The letter [PDF], reviewed by Ars Technica and signed by Broadcom managing director Michael Brown, tells users that they are to stop using any maintenance releases/updates, minor releases, major releases/upgrades extensions, enhancements, patches, bug fixes, or security patches, save for zero-day security patches, issued since their support contract ended.
The letter tells users that the implementation of any such updates "past the Expiration Date must be immediately removed/deinstalled," adding: "Any such use of Support past the Expiration Date constitutes a material breach of the Agreement with VMware and an infringement of VMware's intellectual property rights, potentially resulting in claims for enhanced damages and attorneys' fees." [...] The cease-and-desist letters also tell recipients that they could be subject to auditing: "Failure to comply with [post-expiration reporting] requirements may result in a breach of the Agreement by Customer[,] and VMware may exercise its right to audit Customer as well as any other available contractual or legal remedy."

This seems to be the main blindspot for most devs. I guess it's hard to imagine because GitHub deosn't have the stuff we have, by default, on **any** event.
With nostr:npub18stt78efprta2el02tzgnez6ehghzgtt000v58967wvkgezjmprs0n7h7u (and already now in nostr:npub1gm7gw8q6akeft2pjt270we35vlff0v9g2fene6cxkz2h68q5hl6qls0fte ) repos can and will get zaps, replies and reactions.
We are bringing that part together in one coherent, fun and conversational view.
My main point in this discussion is that next to that, all that's left is the "Get stuff done"-side.
For which I'd only need:
1) Tasks (which you can totally call Issues, if you will)
2) PRs

After Stripe had already caused issues with the very first payment to my business account, PayPal has now followed suit, also blocking the first incoming payment and demanding extra documents. So my client and I immediately switched to Bitcoin and handled it permissionlessly.
Not long after, I shut down my PayPal account. For the cancellation reason (inspired by my client's email), I wrote:
"Far too invasive for a payment provider. Thanks for helping speed up Bitcoin adoption with your practices!"
From this point on, I accept international payments exclusively in Bitcoin or, in rare cases, via direct SEPA bank transfer maybe with Bitwage in between for clients in Europe.

I loooove Japan. It’s clean, safe, and beautiful. The culture is so crafty and thoughtful in every detail. Japanese cuisine has always been my favorite—both to eat and to cook. I love it so much that I could literally eat ramen every day.
But I do feel like Japan is a bit trapped in the ’80s—kind of stuck in that city pop era. I don’t really feel the bright, youthful energy, which makes me feel a little gray sometimes. Don’t get me wrong, though—I love the city pop vibe. I grew up influenced by Japanese culture—anime, J-pop, J-rock—and I still love it to this day.
Kanazawa is where I had the best sushi of my life. I remember it as clearly as if it were yesterday. It was a winter night, and snow was falling. We were so tired from traveling, and at the train station, my husband’s host family—whom he stayed with as an exchange student 20 years ago—was waiting for us. They took us to a small hole-in-the-wall place, but the sushi was so good it brought a tear of joy to my eye. The fresh fish, the flavors and texture of the rice, the shoyu, the sake, the matcha—and the people we shared the meal with—it was unforgettable.
If I visit Japan again, I’ll definitely dive deeper into the culture—cooking (of course), calligraphy, knife making, all the ceremonial traditions. And I definitely want to see a sumo match!

Mají zajímavý marketing (kromě URL adresy tedy), ale výrobce jsem poznal podle toho oranžového gradientu na samolepce na hony daleko.
Červená řepa je fajn na barvení krémů třeba na dorty, zbytek by mě samotného zajímal 😄
