2024-11-17 17:33:55Let me tell you a beautiful story. Last night, during the speakers' dinner at Monerotopia, the waitress was collecting tiny tips in Mexican pesos. I asked her, "Do you really want to earn tips seriously?" I then showed her how to set up a Cake Wallet, and she started collecting tips in Monero, reaching 0.9 XMR. Of course, she wanted to cash out to fiat immediately, but it solved a real problem for her: making more money. That amount was something she would never have earned in a single workday. We kept talking, and I promised to give her Zoom workshops. What can I say? I love people, and that's why I'm a natural orange-piller.

Was also tun?

- Android 端末
- Orbot
- Citrine
- Amethyst

NIPs
Break out chat and threads from nip 29 nostr:npub1jlrs53pkdfjnts29kveljul2sm0actt6n8dxrrzqcersttvcuv3qdjynqn is proposing that this is a variant of #1589 which attempts to reconcile NIP 29 and flotilla's rooms over chat and thread kinds. This requires no changes of NIP 29 clients, only flotilla will need to be modified, andmove kind 9 and 11 out of NIP 29. The choice of new event kinds was initially made to avoid conflicts with existing implementations. However, it would be beneficial to align the two approaches. For chat and threads, maintaining shallow reply hierarchies rather than arbitrary ones is a key consideration. Moving forward would depend on whether this stipulation is acceptable to the NIP 29 community.
Relay chat nostr:npub1jlrs53pkdfjnts29kveljul2sm0actt6n8dxrrzqcersttvcuv3qdjynqn is proposing an alternative to NIP 29 for several reasons. NIP 29 is overly prescriptive in several ways and encourages group admins to host their groups on a third-party relay. Moving group-like features to relays eliminates the need for separate specifications for each group. Additionally, group metadata is redundant because relays already have a NIP 11 information document and a public key with which they can publish additional information.Admins and moderators can be handled implicitly, out-of-band, or by querying feature support using LIMITS. This approach keeps the base specification small while allowing features like moderator lists to be added as optional extensions. Member lists are managed by the members themselves, enabling them to choose whether to publicly disclose their group membership. This approach facilitates web-of-trust-based community recommendations.
Time-ordered event ids nostr:npub1gcxzte5zlkncx26j68ez60fzkvtkm9e0vrwdcvsjakxf9mu9qewqlfnj5z is proposing that there are a lot of performance benefits to having primary keys with temporal locality.when your database needs to check the uniqueness of IDs, only a small portion of the index needs to be hot (in memory). With the current “random identifiers”, the working set eventually becomes all of the data and your database will be page-faulting continuously. Sequential primary keys also make it easier for the database to place new records in order, minimizing the need to rearrange data or update index structures. This PR makes a simple, but breaking change, to the way we compute event ids. It was inspired by the improvements made by UUIDv7.
NIP-37 - Transport method announcement nostr:npub1hw6amg8p24ne08c9gdq8hhpqx0t0pwanpae9z25crn7m9uy7yarse465gr is proposing that Nostr decouples applications completely from the transportation layer, meaning services no longer have to be designed around a single transportation method, but can be accessible through a plethora of ways. This NIP is meant to act as a lookup system that tells a client which transportation methods can be used to access its services. There have been NIP proposals that touch the connection between pubkeys and addresses, example NIP-97 - Nostr Naming System, NIP-66 - Relay Discovery and Liveness Monitoring. NIP-97 is very close to solving the issue of this mapping. However, it attempts to also include human-readable naming into the solution. human-readable naming of pubkeys/services is inherently different from mapping a pubkey to an address where a user can access that pubkey's services, which may or may not map to a legacy domain name.NIP-66 covers discoverability from the client side and can be a very important tool to discern which services are worth connecting to. I think it can act as the feedback mechanism to the proposed event of this NIP. It can be used to build metrics for the various networks a pubkey announces it to be accessible. Things like rtt (round trip time) can also be different for each network and should be measured separately.
nip46: simple public key login using kind:10046 nostr:npub180cvv07tjdrrgpa0j7j7tmnyl2yr6yr7l8j4s3evf6u64th6gkwsyjh6w6 is proposing that This vastly simplifies the bunker:// flow while also making it easy for the user on every other front possibly -- and brings back NIP-05 login, but in a simpler, more generic way.
Add optional arg to nostr.getPublicKey() Lez is proposing that if login is optional for an application, nostr.getPublicKey({optional: true}) can be used to retrieve the pubkey if the user has already granted permission to the app. This allows the user to view the app’s landing page without being interrupted by a popup window. The user can still press the login button later, which calls nostr.getPublicKey() and prompts for permission.
NIP-62: Collections limina1 is defining a specification for organizing nostr events into collections - ordered, optionally-hierarchical structures like books, journals, or documentation. Currently, there's no standardized way to create versioned collections of content. The closest option is to use lists, but this extends that idea beyond a strictly linear hierarchy. Introducing two new event kinds: kind:30040 - Collection Index and kind:30041 - Collection Section. The Collection Index serves as a table of contents, providing metadata about the collection and listing events in display order. Meanwhile, the Collection Section contains the actual content and supports linking to other content using wikilinks, enabling seamless connectivity within the collection.
Add r to kind 10009 nostr:npub1jlrs53pkdfjnts29kveljul2sm0actt6n8dxrrzqcersttvcuv3qdjynqn is proposing adding an "r" field to kind 10009, allowing users can advertise what relays/groups they are members of. Flotilla uses this to recommend relays. These of course should be considered non-canonical because the users publishing them may not actually have access to the relay specified.
Add support for naming unmanaged groups nostr:npub1jlrs53pkdfjnts29kveljul2sm0actt6n8dxrrzqcersttvcuv3qdjynqn is proposing Instead of allowing human-readable ids, it's probably better to just allow users to name groups. I opted for a petnames strategy here instead of recommending sending 9002 events or something. Clients can choose whatever heuristic they want to resolve conflicts.
Add feature detection for unmanaged groups nostr:npub1jlrs53pkdfjnts29kveljul2sm0actt6n8dxrrzqcersttvcuv3qdjynqn is proposing feature detection for unmanaged groups that has to exist on two levels. On the group level, so that clients can toggle the richer NIP 29 behavior on or off. Feature detection based on NIP 11's supported_nips field isn't sufficient, since a relay implementation might support NIP 29, but the actual relay may not.On the relay level, since clients need to be able to know whether users can post events to groups that don't yet exist, or whether they have to send a create-group event instead. The default (obviously) has to be that unmanaged groups are allowed, so unmanaged group support is opt-out.
kind-scoped follow nostr:npub1l2vyh47mk2p0qlsku7hg0vn29faehy9hy34ygaclpn66ukqp3afqutajft is proposing kind-scoped follow does NOT (necessarily) replace kind:3, it's a way to do a very simple follow of one or more kinds that might be of interest. This way we also start moving away from huge follow lists that can get wiped at a moment's notice and instead clients are responsible for computing the follow list and updating its local state. This also allows apps to show "followed" notifications without a central source.
Build Your Own Adventure posts nostr:npub1gcxzte5zlkncx26j68ez60fzkvtkm9e0vrwdcvsjakxf9mu9qewqlfnj5z is defining kind:296 and kind:297 as text notes with options to navigate to the next text notes and continue reading. Kind 296 serves as the root story and 297 for the sections of that story. The idea is to replicate the dynamism of build your own adventure books, where each reader takes their own journey in the story.Story Section events contain an optional title tag and option tags for the next sections.Clients SHOULD render options in a way that users can select and move to that post.

2024-11-22 03:42:42Today we will understand how Argentina, when under the control of the Foro de São Paulo, was an important asset for the Chinese Communist Party in South America and how Javier Milei is charting paths to change this scenario. The Chinese government has been making diplomatic overtures to areas near the polar regions as part of its maritime strategy. After a "strategic retreat," the Southern Hemisphere has assumed a new dimension for Chinese interests in South America. Beijing has been increasing its diplomatic engagement with countries in the region, especially Argentina in recent times, through a series of economic, sociocultural, and to a lesser extent, military agreements. This includes the delivery of vaccines and the intention to accelerate an investment plan worth $30 million. China has focused on several geopolitically sensitive projects in Argentina, all strategic: controlling air and maritime space and strategic facilities in territorial areas monitored by Beijing over Antarctica and the South Atlantic. However, doubts arise about China's intentions... https://image.nostr.build/f55fc5464d8d09cbbddd0fe803b264a5e885da387c2c6c1702f021875beb18c2.jpg For Xi Jinping's government, Argentina stands out for its strategic location, the influential posture of its leaders, and its alignment with China's economic and military power expansion. China has made significant investments and infrastructure initiatives in various Argentine regions. In addition to establishing a presence in the province of Neuquén, China has targeted the port city of Ushuaia in Tierra del Fuego, Antarctica, the South Atlantic islands, and the San Juan region near the Chilean border. A 2012 agreement between authorities in Argentina's Neuquén province and Beijing allowed the construction of a deep space tracking station near the Chilean border, which caught Washington's attention. https://image.nostr.build/a3fa7f2c7174ee9d90aaecd9eadb69a2ef82c04c94584165a213b29d2ae8a66e.jpg In 2014, through a bilateral agreement between the Chinese Lunar Exploration Program, represented by the Satellite Launch and Tracking Control General (CLTC) of the People's Liberation Army (PLA) and Argentina's National Commission on Space Activities (CONAE), the agreement identified the Argentine space station at Bajada del Agrio as the most favorable location for hosting a Chinese base in the Southern Hemisphere. The project became operational in 2017 on a 200-hectare area and represents the third in a global network and the first outside China. It features a 110-ton, 35-meter-diameter antenna for deep space exploration (telemetry and technology for "terrestrial tracking, command, and data acquisition"), with the CLTC having a special exploration license for a period of 50 years. https://image.nostr.build/0a469d8bab900c7cefa854594dfdb934febf2758e1a77c7639d394f14cd98491.jpg The 50-year contract grants the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) the ability to operate freely on Argentine soil. The facility, known as Espacio Lejano, set a precedent for a Chinese ground tracking station in Río Gallegos, on the southeastern coast of Argentina, which was formally announced in 2021. In 2016, a document issued by the U.S. State Council Information Office raised concerns among the U.S. government and European Union (EU) countries about the potential military and geopolitical uses of the base in the Southern Hemisphere and Antarctica. Another element fueling suspicion is the existence of "secret clauses" in a document signed by the General Directorate of Legal Advisory (DICOL) of Argentina’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Trade, and Worship with the Chinese government. https://image.nostr.build/1733ba03475755ddf9be4eafc3e9eb838ba8f9fa6e783a4b060f12b89c3f4165.jpg Since the Espacio Lejano contract was signed, U.S. analysts and authorities have repeatedly expressed concern about China's growing collaboration with Argentina on security and surveillance issues. In 2023, a general from the U.S. Southern Command stated during a hearing of the House Armed Services Committee: "The PRC [People's Republic of China] has expanded its capacity to extract resources, establish ports, manipulate governments through predatory investment practices, and build potential dual-use space facilities." https://image.nostr.build/16bbdeae11247d47a97637402866a0414d235d41fe8039218e26c9d11392b487.jpg The shift in the Argentine government from a leftist spectrum, led by leaders of the São Paulo Forum, to a Milei administration, which has always advocated for libertarian and pro-Western rhetoric, has altered the dynamics of Chinese-Argentine relations in 2024. Milei assumed office on December 10, 2023, replacing the progressive president Alberto Fernández, who had strengthened ties with China and signed an agreement in 2022 to join the CCP’s Belt and Road Initiative. During his campaign, Milei did not hide his disdain for communist regimes and signaled his intention to move away from socialist policies in favor of a more libertarian direction. In the nearly seven months since taking office, Milei has implemented major economic reforms and streamlined the government. https://image.nostr.build/1d534b254529bf10834d81e2ae35ce2698eda2453d5e2b39d98fa50b45c00a59.jpg Other recent "positive indicators" suggest that the Milei administration is prioritizing defense relations with the United States over China, according to Leland Lazarus, Associate Director of National Security at the Jack D. Gordon Institute for Public Policy at Florida International University. "The fact is that, in just six months, he has already visited the United States several times. He has met with Secretary [Antony] Blinken, been to the White House... all of this is like absolute music to General Richardson's ears; to President [Joe] Biden's ears," Lazarus told Epoch Times. General Richardson visited Argentina in April, a trip that included the donation of a C-130H Hercules transport aircraft to the Argentine Air Force and a visit to a naval facility in Ushuaia, Tierra del Fuego, at the southern tip of the country. "We are committed to working closely with Argentina so that our collaborative security efforts benefit our citizens, our countries, and our hemisphere in enduring and positive ways," she said in a statement at the time. In Ushuaia, General Richardson met with local military personnel to discuss their role in "safeguarding vital maritime routes for global trade." https://image.nostr.build/f6d80fee8a7bba03bf11235d86c4f72435ae4be7d201dba81cc8598551e5ed24.jpg In a statement from the Argentine Ministry of Defense, Milei confirmed that General Richardson also reviewed the progress of an "integrated naval base" at the Ushuaia naval facility. Argentine officials said they also discussed "legislative modernization on defense issues." Under the previous administration, China had received preferential treatment. In June 2023, Tierra del Fuego Governor Gustavo Melella approved China's plans to build a "multi-use" port facility near the Strait of Magellan. The project was met with legislative backlash, as three national deputies and members of the Civic Coalition filed an official complaint against the governor's provincial decree to build the port with Beijing. The same group also accused Melella of compromising Argentina’s national security. No public records show that the project has progressed since then. https://image.nostr.build/3b2b57875dc7ac162ab2b198df238cb8479a7d0bbce32b4042e11063b5e2779b.jpg Argentina's desire for deeper security cooperation with Western partners was also evident in April when Argentine Defense Minister Luis Petri signed a historic agreement to purchase 24 F-16 fighter jets from Denmark. "Today we are concluding the most important military aviation acquisition since 1983," Petri said in an official statement. "Thanks to this investment in defense, I can proudly say that we are beginning to restore our air sovereignty and that our entire society is better protected against all the threats we face." https://image.nostr.build/8aa0a6261e61e35c888d022a537f03a0fb7a963a78bf2f1bec9bf0a242289dba.jpg The purchase occurred after several media reports in 2022 indicated that the previous Fernández administration was considering buying JF-17 fighter jets made in China and Pakistan. A former minister from ex-president Mauricio Macri's government, who requested anonymity, confirmed to Epoch Times that a deal to acquire JF-17 jets was being considered during the Fernández era. Chinese investment did not occur only in Argentina. According to a document from the U.S. House Foreign Affairs Committee: "From 2009 to 2019, China transferred a total of $634 million in significant military equipment to five South American countries—Argentina, Bolivia, Ecuador, Peru, and Venezuela. The governments of Venezuela, Ecuador, Bolivia, and Argentina purchased defense equipment from the PRC, cooperated in military exercises, and engaged in educational exchanges and training for their military personnel." https://image.nostr.build/ed6d8daeea418b7e233ef97c90dee5074be64bd572f1fd0a5452b5960617c9ca.jpg Access to space plays a crucial role in the CCP's strategic objectives. Thus, when reports emerged in early April that Milei's government wanted to inspect Espacio Lejano, experts suggested it supported his national security moves away from China. According to the Espacio Lejano contract, signed under Cristina Fernández de Kirchner's Peronist regime, CCP officials are not required to let anyone—including the Argentine president—enter the facility without prior notice. According to Article 3, the agreement stipulates that Argentine authorities cannot interfere with or interrupt the "normal activities" of the facility and must explore alternative options and provide an unspecified amount of notice before being granted access. China has maintained that Espacio Lejano is for deep space exploration, lunar missions, and communication with satellites already in orbit. However, there is deep skepticism that the claim of space exploration alone is highly unlikely. The big question is: what could this facility do in times of war? https://image.nostr.build/f46a2807c02c512e70b14981f07a7e669223a42f3907cbddec952d5b27da9895.jpg Neuquén is just one of 11 ground stations and space research facilities China has in Latin America and the Caribbean. This represents the largest concentration of space equipment China has outside its own country. According to data from the Gordon Institute, the Chinese Espacio Lejano station and the Río Gallegos facility provide an ideal surveillance position near the polar orbit. The polar orbit is useful for data collection, transmission, and tracking because it allows for observation of the entire planet from space. The resolution of communications is also improved due to the proximity of satellites in orbit to the Earth's surface. Additionally, it offers strategic advantages for any government involved in espionage. https://image.nostr.build/39215a4c9f84cbbaf517c4fda8a562bba9e0cd3af3d453a24d3a9b454c5d015d.jpg Regarding deeper security collaboration with the United States, the trend is that Milei’s government will do as much as possible without jeopardizing its contracts with China, which is currently Argentina's second-largest trading partner. However, if Argentina's defense cooperation with China cools, the communist regime might wait for another Argentine government to continue its expansion—a government that could be more favorable to the CCP's objectives. Everything will depend on the continued success of Javier Milei's economic miracle, ensuring his government is re-elected and he can appoint a successor, making it more challenging for China, and avoiding a situation similar to what occurred in Brazil starting in 2023. https://image.nostr.build/a5dd3e59a703c553be60534ac5a539b1e50496c71904d01b16471086e9843cd4.jpg

2024-11-25 02:39:54I’m not sure if I even want to answer.
Robin returned home from her third date with Ty at midnight. Her blond hair was slightly messy and her green eyes flashed with … something. She was encouraged by her first two dates with Ty. He’d nearly swept her off her feet with his confidence and smooth talk. He was physically cut, outwardly kind, and ruggedly handsome. However, something did not sit right that night. She could not put her finger on it. Robin thought about this as she opened her apartment door. The moment she entered she heard a notification of an incoming text on her phone. The message was from her good friend, Anna:
How did the date go?
Robin’s face flushed a deep red. How did she know to text me right now? I’m not sure if I even want to answer.
I just got home.
How was it?
I’m just now reflecting on the night. I just walked in the door.
Oh? That bad?
Robin felt defensive as the heat rose within.
No, no. I’m not saying that just that I’m contemplating the night.
That doesn’t sound as inspiring as your first two dates with Dreamboat.
No, Anna. I’m just trying to catch my breath.
Well, I’m sending you a link that might help you think.
Uh, ok? LOL. Why?
Nothing, I’ve just been thinking about you and want you to know that I care about you deeply. Click this link.
Robin clicked the link. It took her to a web page entitled What Women Look for in Men.
And under it a list:
-
Ambition and Drive
-
Communication
-
Emotional Intelligence
-
Financial Responsibility
-
Integrity and Trustworthiness
-
Kindness and Generosity
-
Physical and Mental Health
-
Tall, Dark, and Handsome
-
Classy and Neat
-
-
Respect
-
Sense of Humor
-
Spiritual
Robin loved the list but wondered why Anna sent her the list on this particular night. Robin automatically compared Ty’s attributes to the list. She thought to herself:
Let’s go to the physical first. Ty passes on both counts. He is tall, dark, handsome, classy and neat. Check. Mentally? He seems to be pretty clear-thinking. Check. Though, he can be a little sharp-tempered at times. Is that a mental or spiritual chink?
Robin returned to random items in the list and her thoughts. Ty at least laughs at the proper moments. He is generous and kind to me, though sometimes short with others. Could that be a problem? I think he can be trusted, but I’m not sure. He seems to respect me and is emotionally stable, at least on the surface. Our communication has been sweet, though, again a little on the surface. He certainly has ambition and drive. His drive frightens me at times. He is so ambitious. My husband, Don, was always so laid back. Ty has plenty of money and seems financially on top of things. Spiritual?
At that word, Robin was taken aback.
I haven’t the slightest idea about that. Could that be something I should be concerned about? Does he have a core?
With that thought, Daniel’s face flashed across her mind. Robin smiled when she remembered her previous encounters with Daniel. Daniel did not meet several items on the above list but he was a kind man. Daniel automatically made her feel at ease. He seemed to communicate from the heart and directly to her. And his communications were not simply on the surface. He asked probing questions and showed interest in her. Daniel had a strong spiritual sense and spoke openly about his faith. Why was she now comparing the two men? She had never dated Daniel. Why was she comparing them now, and at this late hour?
Was this the reason Anna sent her a list on this particular night? Did Anna know her better than she knew herself? Why the list? Anna tossed and turned in her sleep that night. As she dreamed through the night, she compared the men to each other and the list.
Robin woke up the next morning with another notification of a text from Anna. She stared at the text on the screen:
How did you sleep?
Horrible.
Why?
The list.

- Nostr is an open protocol which is interoperable with all kinds of other technologies
- You can use this interoperability to create custom solutions
- Nostr apps define a custom URI scheme handler "nostr:"
- In this blog I use this to integrate Nostr with NFC cards
- I create a Nostr NFC "login card" which allows me to log into Amethyst client
- I create a Nostr NFC "business card" which allows anyone to find my profile with a tap
Inter-Op All The Things!
Nostr is a new open social protocol for the internet. This open nature is very exciting because it means Nostr can add new capabilities to all other internet-connected technologies, from browsers to web applications. In my view, it achieves this through three core capabilities.
- A lightweight decentralised identity (Nostr keys, "npubs" and "nsecs"),
- A lightweight data distribution network (Nostr relays),
- A set of data interoperability standards (The Nostr Improvement Protocols "NIPs"), including the "nostr:" URI which we'll use in this post.
The lightweight nature is its core strength. Very little is required to interoperate with Nostr, which means many existing technologies can be easily used with the network.
Over the next few blog posts, I'll explore different Nostr inter-op ideas, and also deliver my first small open source projects to the community. I'll cover–
- NFC cards integrated with Nostr (in this post),
- Workflow Automations integrated with Nostr,
- AI LLMs integrated with Nostr.
The "Nostr:" URI
One feature of Nostr is it defines a custom URI scheme handler "nostr:". What is that?
A URI is used to identify a resource in a system. A system will have a protocol handler registry used to store such URI's, and if a system has a URI registered, then it knows what to do when it sees it. You are probably already familiar with some URI schemes such as "http:" and "mailto:". For example, when you click an http link, the system knows that it describes an http resource and opens a web browser to fetch the content from the internet.
A nostr: link operates in the same way. The nostr: prefix indicates a custom URI scheme specifically designed for the Nostr protocol. If a system has a Nostr application installed, that application may have registered "nostr:" in the protocol handler registry. On that system when a "nostr:" URI is clicked, the system will know that it describes a nostr resource and open the Nostr client to fetch the content from the nostr relay network.
This inter-op with the protocol handler registry gives us the power to do nice and exciting things with other technologies.
Nostr and NFC
Another technology that uses URIs is NFC cards. NFC (Near Field Communication) is a wireless technology that enables devices to exchange data over a few centimeters. It’s widely used in contactless payments, access control, and information sharing.
NFC tags are small chips embedded in cards or stickers which can store data like plain text, URLs, or custom URIs. They are very cheap (cents each) and widely available (Amazon with next day delivery).
When an NFC tag contains a URI, such as a http: (or nostr:) link, it acts as a trigger. Tapping the tag with an NFC-enabled device launches the associated application and processes the URI. For example, tapping a tag with "nostr:..." could open a Nostr client, directing it to a specific login page, public profile, or event.
This inter-op allows us to bridge the physical world to Nostr with just a tap.
Many useful ideas
There are many interesting ways to use this. Too many for me to explore. Perhaps some of these are interesting for your next side hustle?
- Nostr NFC "login cards" – tap to log into Amethyst on Android,
- Nostr NFC "business cards" – give to connections so they can tap to load your npub,
- Nostr NFC "payment cards" – integrating lightning network or ecash,
- Nostr NFC "doorbells", "punch cards", "drop boxes", or "dead drops" – put a tag in a specific place and tap to open a location-specific message or chat,
- Integrations with other access control systems,
- Integrations with other home automation systems,
- Many more ...
To start with I have built and use the "login card" and "business card" solutions. This blog post will show you how to do the same.
Nostr Login Card
You can use an NFC card to log into your Nostr client.
Most Nostr clients accept a variety of login methods, from posting your nsec into the app (insecure) to using a remote signer (more secure). A less known but more secure method is to sign into a session with a tap of a specially-configured NFC card. Amethyst is a Nostr client on Android which supports this type of login.
- A secure method for logging in
- Optionally keeps no log in history on the device after logout
- Does not require users to know or understand how keys work
- Keys are kept secure on a physically-separated card to reduce risk of compromise
Nostr devs think that this is useful for anti-establishment actors–Fair enough. For me, I am interested in this login card pattern as it could be useful for rolling out identities within an organisation context with less training (office workers are already familiar with door access cards). This pattern potentially abstracts away key management to the IT or ops team who provision the cards.
I first discovered this when Kohei demonstrated it in his video.
Here's how you set it up at a high level–
- Buy yourself some NFC cards
- Get your Nostr key ready in an encrypted, password protected format called "nencryptsec"
- Write the nencryptsec to the NFC card as a custom URI
- Tap to load the login screen, and enter your password to login
Here it is in detail–
Buy yourself some NFC cards
I found no specific requirements. As usual with Nostr so far, I tried to the cheapest possible route and it worked. Generic brand NFC cards shipped from China, I believe it was 50X for $15 from Amazon. Your mileage may vary.
Get your Nostr key ready
Your key will be saved to the NFC card in an encrypted password-protected format called "nencryptsec". Several applications support this. As we'll be using this to login to Amethyst, we will use Amethyst to output the nencryptsec for us.
- Login to Amethyst with your nsec,
- Open the sidebar and click "Backup Keys",
- Enter a password, and click "Encrypt and my secret key",
- It will add the password-protected key to your clipboard in the format "ncryptsec1...",
- Remember to backup your password.
Write the ncryptsec to the NFC card
- Download the free NFC Tools app to your device, and open it,
- Click "Write" and "Add a record", then click "Custom URL / URI",
- Paste your nencryptsec with the nostr URI in front, i.e. "nostr:ncryptsec1..." and click OK,
- Click "Write". NFC Tools will prompt you to "Approach an NFC tag",
- Place your NFC card against your phone, and it will write to the card,
- Your card is ready.
Tap to load the login screen
Tap the card against your phone again, and your phone should open the login screen of Amethyst and prompt you for your password.
Once you enter your password, Amethyst will decrypt your nsec and log you in.
Optionally, you can also set the app to forget you once you log out.
You have created a Nostr NFC "login card".
Nostr Business Card
You can use another NFC card to give anyone you meet a link straight to your Nostr profile.
I attended Peter McCormack's #CheatCode conference in Sydney and gave a few of these out following the Nostr panel, notably to Preston Pysh where it got some cut through and found me my first 100 followers. You can do the same.
To create your Nostr NFC "business card" is even easier than your NFC "login card".
- Buy yourself some NFC cards,
- Download the free NFC Tools app to your device, and open it,
- Click "Write" and "Add a record", then click "Custom URL / URI",
- Write your npub to the NFC card as a custom URI in the format "nostr:npub1..." (e.g. for me this is "nostr:npub1r0d8u8mnj6769500nypnm28a9hpk9qg8jr0ehe30tygr3wuhcnvs4rfsft"),
- Your card is ready.
Give the card to someone who is a Nostr user, and when they tap the card against their phone it will open their preferred Nostr client and go directly to your Nostr profile page.
You have created a Nostr NFC "business card".
What I Did Wrong
I like to share what I did wrong so you don't have to make the same mistakes. This time, this was very easy, and little went wrong. In general
- When password-protecting your nsec, don't forget the password!
- When writing to the NFC card, make sure to use "Custom URI/URL" as this accepts your "nostr:" URI scheme. If you use generic "URI/URL" it won't work.
What's Next
Over my first four blogs I have explored creating a good Nostr setup
- Mined a Nostr pubkey and backed up the mnemonic
- Set up Nostr payments with a Lightning wallet plus all the bells and whistles
- Set up NIP-05 and Lighting Address at my own domain
- Set up a Personal Relay at my own domain
Over the next few blogs I will be exploring different types of Nostr inter-op
- NFC cards integrated with Nostr (this post)
- Workflow Automations integrated with Nostr
- AI LLMs integrated with Nostr
Please be sure to let me know if you think there's another Nostr topic you'd like to see me tackle.

2024-11-17 09:14:56You don't understand how insidious open-borders propaganda is, until you realize that it's an attempt to remove all differentiating traits from humans. They call this "strengthening individuality by removing nationality" (hello, newspeak), but what makes humans individual is their particular collection of traits, and nationality (and ethnicity, religion, etc. -- nationality is just the first domino they want to topple) is one of those.
Humans are not blank slates. Like DNA or physiognomy, our personalities are differing jumbles of cultural "letters". Each person selects consciously and subconsciously from amongst these letters, adding to or rejecting them, amplifying or suppressing them, twisting or combining them, building on top of them... and that's what makes you into You.
Open borders is an attempt to reduce the number of cultural letters you can build your "You" out of. If you take away the word "German", I am not liberated. There is simply one less adjective, with which I can describe myself. You have merely eradicated information, crippled language, and reduced my choices. I can then no longer define myself according to "German things", but I can also no longer define myself in opposition to German things.
Enter the Borg
We are easier to control and brainwash and persecute, if we are centralized and homogenized. As if the entire world were one, big prison and we were all forced to undergo the same education, wear the same clothes, follow the same rules, eat the same foods, enjoy the same entertainment, live the same lifestyle, share the same diseases and cures, enjoy the same lockdowns, join in the same cancel culture, fight the same wars.
That is what globalization brings. That is the end game of Open Borders: * No more cultural evolution or revolution. * Genes, but no memes. * You can go everywhere, but everywhere is the same, so you just stay home. * You can meet people from all over, but they are all the same, so you just don't bother. * One mass of humanity, that can be easily molded and manipulated.

2024-11-09 17:11:54What is multiculturalism?
Multiculturalism is a concept that promotes the acceptance, appreciation, and celebration of diverse cultures within a society. It involves recognizing and valuing the differences between various cultural groups while fostering social cohesion and equality.
The key principles of multiculturalism include:
- Cultural pluralism: Acknowledging and accepting the existence of multiple cultural identities and practices within a society.
- Equality: Ensuring equal opportunities and rights for all individuals, regardless of their cultural background or identity.
- Inclusion: Encouraging participation and engagement of diverse cultural groups in social, political, and economic processes.
- Respect: Promoting mutual respect and understanding between different cultural groups, while recognizing the legitimacy of differing beliefs, values, and practices.
Two questions come to mind:
1. Is it working?
IMO, most definitely not. The world is very divided by race, religion and ideologies, it is a very difficult task. Countries trying this the most (practically enforcing it by law) have encountered more division and segregation; people of the same race, country or ideology will create their own small city sectors, cultural sectors, commercial sectors (China town, little Italy, etc); as is happening in USA for a long time already, happening as well in Spain, France, Germany, etc. 2. Is it being encouraged with tolerance toward those opposing it? I personally don't think so, the irony... But that is just my opinion...

2024-11-09 16:47:53What is Peer Thinking?
The cognitive and emotional processes that occur when individuals are influenced by their peers.
The psychology behind it:
The psychology behind peer influence encompasses various factors, including: 1. Social belonging and acceptance, 2. Identity formation, 3. The dynamics of group behavior
Is it being used to control us?
https://image.nostr.build/cf90335bbf59e3395dc4324d123cd3a058ca716cf6172f079eb1d78547008147.jpg
IMO, yes, at the core of it is the basic human need for belonging. Social belonging is a critical component since it is craved by most, specially but not only by the youngest, those with power across the world know this very well, therefore, thinking that they will not use it to control the population in order to profit from it or change public opinion would be irrational.
The media is used to brain wash the population creating something that most will consider "the norm", thus, the majority will try to conform to that norm in order to belong. That include manipulating the population to take an experimental drug (even if it could be very dangerous due to its unknown effects) or to accept as a norm a behavior that few years back would have been considered inappropriate.
Cognitive Dissonance
https://image.nostr.build/60f24a810be1dd6badb36d70c5a691d4361207590dea1a8e64e09a75a252cfbf.jpg
This is a term that we should get familiar with. It is a psychological state where conflicting beliefs or behaviors create discomfort.
Example: A kid in high school that has a good loving family but all his close friends are on drugs (legal ones) and they keep telling him he is an idiot for not using as well. Now his is that state of conflict believes, on one side his best friends, all tell him is okay, on the other hand his family that loves him has explained him at length the dangers and issues that the drugs will have in his life. To resolve the dissonance he has three options, one, join the group and start taking drugs with the rest, two try to rationalize it, considering to take drugs just occasionally to belong but not to make it a habit, three lose his friends (and here it comes again the peer thinking to bite). Extrapolate to many other cases.
As an anecdote Recently, on a friend's reunion, one of the guest was complaining about one of his daughters, she was quite confused asking him why so many of her classmates were bisexual, she was wondering if something was wrong with her since she was not; a 13 year old girl; the father was having a hard time explaining her that the majority are saying so just to feel as part of what the school was teaching to be the norm, it was not cool to be straight, the tally was 37% of the class. Consider that, statistically, the number of people, “worldwide” identifying as bisexual are between 3% and 5% (less than 1% in less accepting countries), that number used to be less than 2% less than a decade ago. But 37% is far from the statistical norm, indicating a peer thinking behavior but not the reality of their sexual preferences. Once again, extrapolate to any ideology, religion, gender identity, political agenda that a country desires to push forward for whatever reason, adding that to the official school program and to federal mandatory training programs would do the trick.
A powerful tool, that can be used for good or bad.
What are the strategies to counter negative peer thinking?
https://image.nostr.build/4b70949b8af76ed53a5be5507f41f1d1c960dc3592f199eab78e2d25688975c5.jpg
Reading the literature about the subject, few strategies are recommended:
-
Self-Awareness: teaching ourselves and our children to recognize when we are being influenced by peers
-
Being selective with your friends: peers with similar values will reinforce positive behaviors
-
Learning to be assertive: teaching ourselves and our children to communicate assertively our boundaries will empower us and them to resist unwanted pressure to adopt negative behaviors.
-
Less judging more talking: this applies to our children and partners, judging less and listening more will make our beloved ones more open to discuss social pressures.
What do you think? What strategies you use as counter measures?

Leverage is the practise of trading cryptocurrency with borrowed funds. With leveraged trading, you can purchase or sell more for the same amount of capital. You can use your collateral to make leveraged transactions even if you start with a relatively small amount of funds. While using leverage can greatly increase your earning potential, it also exposes you to far greater danger, which is especially true in the highly speculative cryptocurrency market. Take caution when trading cryptocurrencies using leverage. If the market goes against your bet, you could incur significant losses.
Trading with leverage might be difficult for newcomers. However, it is essential to learn what leverage is and how it functions before attempting to use it. While the focus of this essay will be on leveraged trading in the cryptocurrency markets, most of the information is equally applicable to more conventional markets.
What is leverage in crypto trading?
Leverage is the practise of trading cryptocurrencies or other financial assets with borrowed money. Your ability to make a purchase or sale is increased, giving you access to more funds beyond those at your disposal. You may be able to borrow up to 100 times your account balance from some cryptocurrency exchanges.
Leverage is measured in terms of a ratio, such as 1:5 (5x), 1:10 (10x), or 1:20 (20x). It displays the multiples of one's initial investment. Let's say you want to start a bitcoin position worth $1,000, but you only have $100 in your exchange account (BTC). Because of the leverage, your one hundred dollars will be worth one thousand.
Leverage can be used to trade numerous crypto-derivatives. Margin trading, leveraged tokens, and futures contracts are typical examples of leveraged trading.
How does leveraged trading work?
You need to fund your trading account before you can use leverage to borrow money and make trades. Collateral consists of the initial deposit you make into our account. Collateral needs to be proportional to both the amount of leverage and the entire value of the position being opened (known as margin).
Assume you have $1,000 and want to invest it in Ethereum (ETH) with a 10x leverage. If you want to borrow $1,000, for example, and the margin is 10%, or $100, then you'll need to have $100 in your margin account. With a 20x leverage (1/20 of $1,000 is $50), your margin call would be significantly lower. But remember that larger levels of leverage come with greater chances of insolvency and liquidation.
You'll need to keep a certain amount of your original margin deposit plus additional margin at all times in order to make trades. As soon as the market goes against you and your margin falls below the maintenance requirement, your account will be liquidated unless you deposit more money. The cutoff is the same thing as the safety margin.
Both long and short positions can benefit from using leverage. When you open a long position, you are betting that the value of the underlying asset will increase. In contrast, betting for a decline in the asset's value by placing a short position This may sound like standard spot trading, but when you use leverage, you are actually buying or selling assets based on your collateral rather than the actual value of the assets you possess. If you believe the market will fall, you can open a short position even if you don't own the asset you're shorting.
An example of a leveraged long position
Assume you want to open a long position in bitcoin worth $10,000 with a 10x leverage. In other words, you'll put up $1,000 in collateral. A 20% increase in Bitcoin's price would result in a net profit of $2,000 (after fees), significantly more than the $200 you could have made without utilising leverage if you had invested only $1,000.
But if the Bitcoin price declines by 20%, you would lose $2,000 on your investment. If the value of your initial investment (collateral) of $1,000 drops by 20%, you will be forced to sell (your balance goes to zero). Even a 10% loss in the market could be enough to cause liquidation. The precise value at liquidation will vary depending on the trading platform used.
You need more money in your wallet as collateral if you want to avoid getting liquidated. Before a liquidation occurs, the exchange will often issue a margin call (e.g., an email telling you to add more funds).
An example of a leveraged short position
Assume for a moment that you want to open a $10,000 short position on BTC with a 10x leverage. In this situation, you will borrow bitcoin from another person and sell it at the current price. You have only put up $1,000 in collateral, but thanks to 10x leverage, you can make a $10,000 Bitcoin sale.
You leased 0.25 BTC and sold it for $40,000, assuming the current BTC price. With merely $8,000, you can repurchase 0.25 BTC if the price of Bitcoin declines by 20% to $32,000. That's a $2,000 gain after expenses! (minus fees).
If Bitcoin's price increases by 20%, to $48,000, you will need an additional $2,000 to repurchase the 0.25 BTC. Given that you only have $1,000 in your account, your position will be closed. Again, you can avoid liquidation by increasing your collateral by adding additional money to your wallet before the liquidation price is reached.
Why use leverage to trade crypto?
Leverage is used by traders to increase the size of their positions and the amount of money they may make. In contrast, the potential for substantially larger losses inherent in leveraged trading was shown in the aforementioned examples.
Leverage is used by traders for a number of reasons, one of which is to increase the fluidity of their money. To keep the same size of position while posting less collateral, they may, for instance, deploy 4x leverage across multiple exchanges rather than 2x leverage on a single one. This would free up some of their capital for use in other endeavours (such as investing in NFTs, trading in other assets, staking, or providing liquidity to decentralised exchanges).
How do you manage risks with leveraged trading?
Leveraged trading reduces the initial cash needed to enter the market but raises the probability of eventual bankruptcy. Even a small change in price can have a catastrophic effect on your portfolio if your leverage is excessive. If you have a low volatility tolerance already, increasing your leverage will make that worse. If you use less leverage, you have more room for error when trading. For this reason, Binance and other cryptocurrency exchanges have capped the amount of leverage that new customers can utilise.
Stop-loss and take-profit orders are examples of risk management strategies that can be used in leveraged trading to reduce exposure to loss. Whenever the market goes against you, stop-loss orders can close your position instantly at a predetermined price. The use of stop-loss orders helps prevent catastrophic losses. In contrast, take-profit orders terminate trading automatically whenever your profit reaches a certain threshold. That way, you can lock in your profits before the market takes a downturn.
You should now see that leverage in trading is a double-edged sword that can greatly increase your profits or losses. It's risky business, especially given the unpredictability of the bitcoin market. If you trade on Binance, we expect you to operate in a responsible manner and take responsibility for your decisions. To assist you in staying in charge of your transactions, we include features like a cooling-off period and a notice to prevent you from becoming addicted to trading. Use extreme caution at all times, and don't forget to do your own research (DYOR) to learn about the proper use of leverage and the development of trading techniques.
How to use margin trading on Binance
Cryptocurrency exchanges such as Binance allow traders to take advantage of leverage to increase their trading potential when transacting in digital currency. We'll walk you through the basics of margin trading, but the idea of leverage is applicable to other markets as well. Obtaining a margin account is a prerequisite to proceeding. If you haven't already done so, please read our Frequently Asked Questions post.
-
To check your margin, first select [Trade] > [Margin] from the menu bar.
-
Look for the pair you want to trade by clicking [BTC/USDT]. Our currency pair will be Binance Coin (BNB) to US Dollar (USDT).
-
You have to add some money to your margin wallet. Below the candlestick graph, select [Transfer Collaterals].
-
Choose the receiving wallet, the receiving margin account, and the cryptocurrency to send. Simply enter the total and press [Confirm].Here, we'll show you how to send 100 USDT to the Cross Margin account.
-
Click the right-hand box and continue. Decide between [Cross 3x] and [Isolated 10x]. When using Cross Margin mode, your margin accounts' margin balances will be pooled together, while in Isolated Margin mode, your margin balances will remain separate. This Frequently Asked Questions page has additional information on the distinction between the two.
-
Choose [Buy] (long) or [Sell] (short) and an order type, such as a market order. When you press [Borrow], you'll see that the one hundred USDT we deposited into the Cross Margin account has been multiplied by three, turning into three hundred USDT.
-
If you want to acquire Binance Coins (BNB) using a loan, you can do so by multiplying your USDT deposit by [Total] and your desired BNB purchase by [Amount]. A percentage of your available balance can also be used by dragging the bar below. The loan amount for this investment will then be displayed. Just open the position by clicking [Margin Buy BNB].
Keep in mind that you can't invest the full amount you have because of the trading cost. The system will automatically maintain the trading charge amount depending on your VIP status.
Conclusion
Utilizing leverage makes it possible to get your feet wet with a smaller outlay of capital and the expectation of larger returns in the future. The rapid liquidation of assets is still a risk when using 100x leverage to trade, especially if the market is volatile. Always trade with prudence and analyse the risks before taking on leveraged trading. Never trade with money you can't afford to lose, especially if you're using leverage.
FAQs
Explain what a leverage of 10 means. A ratio, such as 1:10 (10x) or 1:20 (20x), expresses how much leverage you have (20x). It shows how many times your initial investment is compounded. For instance, with a leverage ratio of 1:10, you would only need $1,000 to invest $10,000.
What leverage should I use in crypto? Swing traders often hold onto their positions for several days, if not weeks. Therefore, it is crucial to keep leverage low to prevent inadvertent liquidation from everyday market liquidity. Daily fluctuations of 5–10% in cryptocurrency markets are to be expected.
Does crypto favour leverage? To a large extent, the crypto sector makes use of leverage. Leverage can boost gains, but it also magnifies losses. Trading cryptocurrencies using borrowed money (sometimes known as "leveraged trading") entails high levels of risk. It's mainly because the market is so unpredictable.

2024-11-08 10:27:40You have no idea
I regularly read comments from people, on here, wondering how it's possible to marry -- or even simply be friends! -- with someone who doesn't agree with you on politics. I see this sentiment expressed quite often, usually in the context of Bitcoin, or whatever pig is currently being chased through the village, as they say around here.
It seems rather sensible, but I don't think it's as hard, as people make it out to be. Further, I think it's a dangerous precondition to set, for your interpersonal relationships, because the political field is constantly in flux. If you determine who you will love, by their opinions, do you stop loving them if their opinions change, or if the opinions they have become irrelevant and a new set of opinions are needed -- and their new ones don't match your new ones? We could see this happen to relationships en masse, during the Covid Era, and I think it happens every day, in a slow grind toward the disintegration of interpersonal discourse.
I suspect many people do stop loving, at that point, as they never really loved the other person for their own sake, they loved the other person because they thought the other person was exactly like they are. But no two people are alike, and the longer you are in a relationship with someone else, the more the initial giddiness wears off and the trials and tribulations add up, the more you notice how very different you actually are. This is the point, where best friends and romantic couples say, We just grew apart.
But you were always apart. You were always two different people. You just didn't notice, until now.
I've also always been surprised at how many same-party relationships disintegrate because of some disagreement over some particular detail of some particular topic, that they generally agree on. To me, it seems like an irrelevant side-topic, but they can't stand to be with this person... and they stomp off. So, I tend to think that it's less that opinions need to align to each other, but rather that opinions need to align in accordance with the level of interpersonal tolerance they can bring into the relationship.
I was raised by relaxed revolutionaries
Maybe I see things this way because my parents come from two diverging political, cultural, national, and ethnic backgrounds, and are prone to disagreeing about a lot of "important" (to people outside their marriage) things, but still have one of the healthiest, most-fruitful, and most long-running marriages of anyone I know, from that generation. My parents, you see, aren't united by their opinions. They're united by their relationship, which is something outside of opinions. Beyond opinions. Relationships are what turn two different people into one, cohesive unit, so that they slowly grow together. Eventually, even their faces merge, and their biological clocks tick to the same rhythm. They eventually become one entity that contains differing opinions about the same topics.
It's like magic, but it's the result of a mindset, not a worldview. Or, as I like to quip:
The best way to stay married, is to not get divorced.
My parents simply determined early on, that they would stay together, and whenever they would find that they disagreed on something that didn't directly pertain to their day-to-day existence with each other they would just agree-to-disagree about that, or roll their eyes, and move on. You do you. Live and let live.
My parents have some of the most strongly held personal opinions of any people I've ever met, but they're also incredibly tolerant and can get along with nearly anyone, so their friends are a confusing hodgepodge of people we liked and found interesting enough to keep around. Which makes their house parties really fun, and highly unusual, in this day and age of mutual-damnation across the aisle.
The things that did affect them, directly, like which school the children should attend or which country they should live in, etc. were things they'd sit down and discuss, and somehow one opinion would emerge, and they'd again... move on.
And that's how my husband and I also live our lives, and it's been working surprisingly well. No topics are off-limits to discussion (so long as you don't drone on for too long), nobody has to give up deeply held beliefs, or stop agitating for the political decisions they prefer.
You see, we didn't like that the other always had the same opinion. We liked that the other always held their opinions strongly. That they were passionate about their opinions. That they were willing to voice their opinions; sacrifice to promote their opinions. And that they didn't let anyone browbeat or cow them, for their opinions, not even their best friends or their spouse. But that they were open to listening to the other side, and trying to wrap their mind around the possibility that they might just be wrong about something.
We married each other because we knew: this person really cares, this person has thought this through, and they're in it, to win it. What "it" is, is mostly irrelevant, so long as it doesn't entail torturing small animals in the basement, or raising the children on a diet of Mountain Dew and porn, or something.
Live and let live. At least, it's never boring. At least, there's always something to ~~argue~~ talk about. At least, we never think... we've just grown apart.

2024-11-07 07:22:14Unsucking the feed is real
As a Nostrich with an interesting, thought-provoking, and informative feed... a feed so good, that we're creating clients just to look at that feed... a feed that puts a lie to the idea that Nostr is nothing, but people reposting from Twitter or rehashing worn-out Bitcoin memes... a feed that I personally and increasingly enjoy perusing... I am here to tell you that the feed is real.
It's taken me over a year, to produce this feed. I literally spent hours and hours, day in and day out, scouring the Nostrverse for people worth introducing other people to. It was brutally difficult, as I was fighting the inherent nature of the Nostr clients and relays, in their current, most-popular form.
It goes like so...
Here are the steps I took, that sometimes weren't possible to take, until I tried to take them, and that still will sometimes break your client because the clients are often intentionally designed to steer you into having one particular feed:
1) Make a screenshot of your current relay list and copy your follows list. 2) Unsubscribe from all the relays, that you are currently subscribed to. Your feed should disappear. If it doesn't, or it doesn't allow for this, switch to a different client app because yours is corrupted. 3) Unfollow everyone. Delete the whole list. You are taking your follows private, which will invariably result in only following npubs whose stuff you actually want to see, since there's no longer any virtue-signaling going on. Also, it's easier to explain having no list, than a very short one. If your client doesn't allow for this, or starts throwing error messages and freezing up, then switch to a different client app because yours is corrupted. 4) Curate your copied follows list. Go line by line and look at the feed produced by the npub on that list. * Do you want to see that in your feed, going forward? * Do they produce original content and/or are they interesting conversationalists, in the replies? * Have they been active, within the past three months? * Are they simply good friends or real-life acquaintances, that you want to keep tabs on? * If not, cross out their name. * If you have been following someone because they repost or quote interesting things, look at who they've been reposting and follow them, instead. 5) Of the npubs remaining on your list, go through and select the 10 most interesting ones, and look at the reposts and quotes in their feed, and their topical lists like \"Favorites\", \"Devs\", \"Recipes\", etc. (Not their follows list, unless it's quite short, as follows tend to be full of people they follow for social-signaling or client-functional reasons, that they don't actively look at.) Find some new follows, there. 6) Now, set up a personal relay and add all the follows, that made the cut, to your allowed-npubs list. Do not add people to the list, just to make them feel better, or because you feel guilty, as they follow you, or to keep them from yelling at you. Remember, they can't see the list! 7) Think about the topics you find interesting, and add an allowed-keywords list (this is better than hashtags, as it searches the entire content of the notes), with the OR operator (these allowed npubs OR these allowed topics). 8) Make sure that you choose words likely to find the content you are most-interested in, and not people just ranting about it or spamming (those are great additions to your relay's block-list). If you are Muslim, for instance, instead of "Islam" or "shariah", choose "hadith" or "riba", as those are words more-likely to be used by people who know what they are talking about. If you are into bread baking, add "sourdough", "rye", "yeast", or "whisk", but don't add "bread" or "carbs". Once a note from those people shows up in your feed, and their feed looks like someone interesting, you can add their npub to your allow list. Remember: The topics are there to find people to add to the allow list, not merely for their own sake, as this is not a topical relay, but a personal one. 9) Open up a faucet (or relay syncing) with some of the big relays you previously unsubscribed from, some WoT relays, and some of the paid relays (nostr.land, nostr.wine, nostr21.com, and sovbit.host, for example). Your relay will filter that feed and only accept the events from the people and topics on your list. As your relay becomes more popular, npubs will begin writing directly to it, and the connections to other relays will sink in significance. 10) Go to your client of choice and subscribe to your new relay. Also subscribe to some topical relays, or curated neighborhood relays, you find interesting or your frens are running. This is an easy way to find new, interesting npubs, to add to your own relay.
That's a lot of work, you say? Yes, but the result is great, and you are now fully in-charge of your own feed. You also -- here's the cool part -- have a feed good enough, that other people can add your feed to theirs and enjoy your manual curation. As you refine and expand your feed, theirs will also be refined, in parallel. You are now an official Nostr Community Curator. My sincere congratulations.
Why is this so hard?
This is only a lot of work because the clients aren't designed to interact with relays, to this extent, as they were created to service mega-relays, download all their crap to your local cache, and adjust the feed over the follows/mutes lists. This was an idea borne of the axiom that Relays Are Hard, so there will only ever be a handful of them, where we'd all clump together and the relay operators would never judge the quality of someone's content. Then, some unusually clever people made relays increasingly easy, and the mailbox communication model was invented, and here we are.
What we have now, and that is slowly growing in popularity, among the #NostrIntelligentsia, are Nostr clients aimed at curating and viewing individual relays or personalized sets of smaller or more-specialized relays. The reigning client devs refused to give us those clients, and most of us aren't up to developing our own clients, so the relay devs took matters into their own hands and made the clients themselves. The free market remains undefeated.
This is a total game-changer. Last one to board this train is a rotten egg.
Originally, relays were supposed to be completely stupid and clients were supposed to be completely smart, but it's now actually the other way around, because most relay devs have a market-born incentive to make their content highly customizable and appealing to individuals (so that more people run relays).
But what about algos?
Can't you just slap an algo on top of Damus, Lol, or Primal relays, and get the same result? I would argue... no. No, you can't. Or, rather, only in the short to medium term.
Running your own relay, is running your own server. You are now intellectually independent, at a machine-level, and therefore a fully sovereign consumer. If you then use algos to control your own server, or in a client that subscribes to your own server, then you can further-refine a feed that is already in a high-to-you-signal state, rather than risking an algo inching you toward the Consensus Feed.
I have noticed that my own feed is slowly drifting away from the ReplyGuy-Cryptobot-Porny-Bitcoin-Meme Dumpster Fire, that almost everyone else is looking at, and it's due to running my own relay. If I use DVMs, those algos sometimes refer to relays I intentionally avoid, so they return results according to those relays. The results are as underwhelming, as you would expect, and often are simply 31 flavors of the Trending List.
But, that isn't your problem, anymore. From here, you can actively expand and refine your feed, over your whitelist, the topics, and your personally-managed algos.
Happy Nostr-ing!

- Bitcoin e a Geopolítica Monetária

2024-11-24 22:35:56Non-fungible tokens (NFTs) are a type of cryptocurrency that is not interchangeable with other tokens of the same type. NFTs are unique, meaning each NFT can be distinguished from every other NFT. This is unlike fungible tokens, such as Bitcoin or Ethereum, which are interchangeable and each unit is identical to every other unit.
NFTs are stored on a blockchain, like other cryptocurrencies. The most popular blockchain for storing NFTs is Ethereum. NFTs can represent anything that can be stored digitally, such as a piece of art, a video, or a virtual world.
One of the benefits of NFTs is that they can be traded easily and quickly on decentralized exchanges. This means that there is no need for a central authority, such as a bank, to facilitate the transaction.
How does NFT work- NFTs are digital assets that are stored on a blockchain. The key difference between an NFT and other digital assets is that NFTs are unique and non-fungible. This means that each NFT is unique and cannot be replaced by another asset.
NFTs are often used to represent digital art, but they can also be used to represent other things like in-game items, collectibles, and even real-world assets.
The way an NFT work is similar to how cryptocurrencies work. When you buy an NFT, you are buying a digital token that is stored on a blockchain. The blockchain records each transaction and ensures that the NFT cannot be duplicated.
NFTs have gained in popularity in recent years as the technology behind them has become more advanced. The use of NFTs is still in its early stages, but there is a lot of potentials for them to be used in a variety of ways.

2024-11-06 00:07:28Who is the Cult of the Dead Cow (cDc)?
A known USA based hacktivist group. According to the record in Wikipedia, it was started in 1984 at the Farm Pac slaughterhouse by Grandmaster Ratte' (aka Swamp Ratte'), Franken Gibe, Sid Vicious, and three BBS SysOps
You can check their member list in their web site
Thinks of the cDc group that I have found quite interesting
- Group member Drunkfux (Jesse Dryden) is the grand nephew of Charlie Chaplin
- In 1991, the group began distributing music in the form of cassette tape albums
- In November 1994, the group claimed responsibility for giving President Ronald Reagan Alzheimer's disease, claiming to have done so in 1986 with a blowgun
- In 1995, the group declared war on the Church of Scientology stating "We believe that El Ron Hubbard [sic] is actually none other than Heinrich Himmler of the SS, who fled to Argentina and is now responsible for the stealing of babies from hospitals and raising them as 'super-soldiers' for the purpose of overthrowing the U.S. Fed. Govt. in a bloody revolution. We fear plans for a 'Fourth Reich' to be established on our home soil under the vise-like grip of oppression known as Scientology!"
- On January 7, 1999, the group joined with an international coalition of hackers to denounce a call to cyber-war against the governments of China and Iraq
- In February 2000, the group was the subject of an 11 minute documentary short titled "Disinformation".
- In February 2000, a member of the group by the code-name Mudge briefed President Bill Clinton on "Internet security".
- In 2003 the tool created by the group by the name of Six/Four System became the first product of a hacker group to receive approval from the United States Department of Commerce for export of strong encryption
- Member by the name of "Psychedelic Warlord" is congressman Beto O'Rourke, an American politician who served as the U.S. representative for Texas's 16th congressional district from 2013 to 2019. A member of the Democratic Party, party's nominee for the U.S. Senate in 2018, candidate for the presidential nomination in 2020, and the party's nominee for the 2022 Texas gubernatorial election.
Do they have a political affiliation?
From the previous section we could at least assume that they sympathize with the USA Democratic party, they supported President Bill Clinton and claimed responsibility for doing serious harm to President Ronald Reagan, I could not find any information if the government opened an investigation about this allegation or not.
Their latest contribution?
Recently, they have developed an application framework by the name of Veilid, described as "like TOR" but for apps.
This application framework, if adopted by many developers will improve privacy by default for applications developed under that framework. The web site claim that it is open source
You can review the information and project at the web site: VEILID
In the Web site the group describe it as follows:
"Veilid allows anyone to build a distributed, private app. Veilid gives users the privacy to opt out of data collection and online tracking. Veilid is being built with user experience, privacy, and safety as our top priorities. It is open source and available to everyone to use and build upon."
"Veilid goes above and beyond existing privacy technologies and has the potential to completely change the way people use the Internet. Veilid has no profit motive, which puts us in a unique position to promote ideals without the compromise of capitalism."
Summary
Veilid seems to be exactly what is needed at the moment to bring privacy to the masses, even though TOR is doing a very good job and with the improved throughput its usage experience has improved, having a native privacy oriented FOSS application framework is paramount.
Most people is not technically savvy and therefore, not skilled in cyber security, they are constantly victims of cyber crime in many forms and shapes. eliminating one vector of attack by making the applications to opt out of data collection and online tracking from the get go is a step in the right direction, the question is, Would developers in general use the framework? Considering the ads will not be a possible source of income if the framework is used, well... Time will say...

2024-11-24 21:04:48I have a fairly disciplined and obedient dog. She’s a bundle of energy wrapped in a well-trained package, ready to show off her tricks at the drop of a hat. From the basics like “sit” and “stay” to more impressive moves like “spin around,” “shake,” and even “play dead,” she’s got an arsenal of talents that never fail to entertain. But what’s most remarkable isn’t just her repertoire of skills—it’s her eager enthusiasm, the way her tail wags furiously in anticipation of the treat she knows is coming. Watching her perform, it’s clear that, in many ways, humans aren’t so different—we all do tricks for the rewards we want.
Who's Your Master?
Who do you do tricks for, so you get something you want? At first glance, the question might feel uncomfortable. “I’m nobody’s dog,” you might say. But peel back the layers of pride, and you may find that we all engage in this kind of dynamic every day, in ways both subtle and overt. Your boss? Your spouse? Your kids? Your friends? At some point, each of these relationships involves a trade—actions performed in the hope of receiving something in return.
It might be money, validation, affection, approval, or peace of mind. Whatever the "treat" is, it motivates us to act in ways that align with someone else’s desires. We perform tricks, consciously or unconsciously, because we want the reward. The question isn’t whether this happens. The question is, who holds your leash, and how much are you willing to do for the treats they offer?
The Professional Arena
The workplace is one of the most obvious places where the “dog and treat” analogy holds true. Your boss asks for a report, a presentation, or overtime. You comply. Why? Because there’s a paycheck at the end of the month, perhaps a chance for a promotion, or even just the avoidance of getting reprimanded.
Think about it: Have you ever found yourself bending over backward to meet a deadline, staying late to finish a task, or meticulously crafting an email just to curry favor? It’s a trick. Maybe it’s a complicated one, requiring skill and effort, but it’s a trick nonetheless. And the treat? Job security, recognition, or the satisfaction of knowing you’re a "good employee."
But at what cost? Dogs don’t choose their tricks—they’re taught what their owners want them to do. Similarly, how often do we fall into routines and behaviors at work that we didn’t consciously choose but adopted to stay in the good graces of our employers?
The Personal Sphere
Our personal lives are not exempt from this dynamic. Consider your relationships with family, friends, and significant others. How often do we act in ways designed to elicit a specific response? You might clean the house before your partner gets home, hoping for appreciation. You might help a friend move, expecting gratitude (and maybe some pizza and beer). You might listen to your child’s endless stories about their day, not just out of love, but because you want their trust and affection.
None of this is inherently bad. Acts of service and care are the glue that binds relationships. But it’s worth asking: Are these actions genuine expressions of love and connection, or are they performed under the unspoken pressure of earning a treat?
What happens when the treat doesn’t come? What if your spouse doesn’t notice the clean house, or your friend forgets to say thank you? Does the absence of a treat leave you bitter? If so, it might be time to reexamine whether you’re performing tricks out of choice or obligation.
Societal Tricks and Collective Treats
Beyond our personal and professional circles, we perform tricks on a societal level. Social norms, traditions, and expectations shape our behavior in profound ways. We act a certain way to be accepted by a community or to maintain a specific image.
Consider social media. Every post, photo, and comment is a trick designed to earn a treat: zaps, likes, comments, or shares. The dopamine hit of online validation can be as addictive as a dog’s favorite treat. We curate our lives to please an invisible audience, performing tricks that align with societal expectations of success, beauty, or wit.
Who’s Holding Your Leash?
Acknowledging this dynamic doesn’t mean we’re powerless. In fact, it’s an opportunity to reflect on who or what controls our actions. Are we acting out of genuine desire, or are we being trained to jump through hoops for treats that don’t truly satisfy us?
The leash might be held by a boss, a partner, or societal pressures, but it can also be self-imposed. Sometimes, we’re our own masters, setting impossible standards for ourselves and punishing ourselves when we fail to meet them.
The key is awareness. A dog performing a trick knows the treat is coming—it’s a conscious exchange. Similarly, we can choose our tricks and treats more intentionally.
Finding Freedom in Choice
We can’t escape the "dog and treat" dynamic entirely. Human relationships and societies are built on mutual exchanges, and that’s not inherently a bad thing. But by becoming more mindful of who or what we’re performing for, we can take back some control.
What if you choose your tricks more deliberately? What if you decided which treats are worth chasing and which aren’t? What if you recognized when a leash is being tightened around your neck and chose to slip free?
The Choice is Yours
We’re all just dogs doing tricks for a treat. That’s not a condemnation—it’s a truth worth reflecting on. Every trick we perform, every treat we chase, is an opportunity to ask: Is this worth it? Am I acting out of genuine desire, or am I simply following the tug of the leash?
Choose your master wisely.

2024-11-24 20:49:36The Foundation of Our Bodies
Our feet are the very foundation of our bodies. They bear our weight, provide balance, and allow for intricate movements. Yet, in modern times, we’ve encased these natural marvels in layers of synthetic materials and rigid, leading to a plethora of health problems.
The Natural Design of Feet
Nature has designed our feet to function optimally without any additional support. The arch, the toes, and the muscular structure all work together to absorb shock, maintain balance, and propel us forward. Shoes, particularly those with narrow toe boxes and elevated heels, can alter this natural mechanism, leading to issues such as:
- Plantar Fasciitis: Often caused by insufficient arch support and heels.
- Bunions: Resulting from tight, pointed shoes that squish the toes together.
- Flat Feet: Caused by prolonged use of supportive shoes that prevent the arch from strengthening naturally.
The Science Behind Barefoot Benefits
Various studies have highlighted the benefits of ditching your shoes:
-
Improved Foot Strength and Flexibility: Walking barefoot helps strengthen the muscles, tendons, and ligaments in your feet. Just like any other part of your body, the more you exercise your feet naturally, the stronger they get.
-
Better Posture: When barefoot, your body naturally aligns itself. Heels and cushioned shoes can misalign your posture, causing back, knee, and hip pain.
-
Enhanced Sensory Feedback: Our feet are equipped with a high density of nerve endings, providing valuable feedback to help us maintain balance and posture. Walking barefoot enhances proprioception, the sense of how our bodies are positioned in space.

Natural Gait: Shoes alter our natural walking pattern. Barefoot walking encourages the natural gait where the foot lands softly and aligns correctly with the ground.
Historical Context and Cultural Perspectives
Historically, humans have walked barefoot for thousands of years. Our ancestors ran, hunted, and thrived without the need for supportive footwear. Various cultures still maintain a barefoot lifestyle, and it’s worth noting the minimal foot problems in these populations compared to shoe-wearing societies.
In cultures where barefoot walking is prevalent, people often display:
- Fewer Foot Deformities: Like bunions or hammertoes.
- Minimal Chronic Foot Pain: Due to the natural strengthening of foot muscles.
- Better Balance and Agility: Thanks to constant sensory input and natural movement.
The Grounding Effect: More Than Just Physical
Beyond the physical advantages, walking barefoot connects us to the earth, a practice often termed "grounding" or "earthing." The idea is that direct contact with the earth’s surface allows for the transfer of free electrons which act as antioxidants, reducing inflammation and boosting our overall health.
Scientific Insights
Studies have shown that grounding can:
- Improve Sleep: By regulating circadian rhythms.
- Reduce Pain and Inflammation: Through the transfer of free electrons which neutralize free radicals.
- Boost Mood and Energy: By reducing stress hormones like cortisol.
Transitioning to Barefoot: A Practical Guide
Switching to a barefoot lifestyle isn’t something you should do overnight, especially if you've been wearing conventional shoes for most of your life. Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you transition safely:
-
Start Slow: Begin by walking barefoot at home. Gradually increase the duration as your feet become stronger.
-
Choose Natural Surfaces: Whenever possible, walk on grass, sand, or dirt to allow your feet to adjust to different textures and strengthen naturally.
-
Practice Foot Exercises: exercises like toe curls, arch lifts, and calf stretches can help strengthen your foot muscles.
-
Consider Barefoot Shoes: If going completely barefoot is not feasible in certain environments, barefoot shoes with wide toe boxes and flexible soles can be a great alternative.
-
Listen to Your Body: Pay attention to any pain or discomfort and give your feet time to adapt.
Addressing Common Concerns
Hygiene and Safety
A common concern is the risk of injury or hygiene issues. While it's true that barefoot walking involves some risk of cuts or infections:
- Inspect Your Path: Always check the ground for sharp objects or dangerous terrain before walking barefoot.
- Maintain Good Hygiene: Wash your feet regularly to prevent infections.
- Strengthen Your Soles: As your feet adapt, the skin on your soles will thicken, providing additional protection.
Real-Life Success Stories
Many athletes and everyday individuals have embraced the barefoot movement with remarkable success. Marathon runners, sprinters, and hikers have reported fewer injuries and improved performance. Regular folks have also shared stories of alleviated chronic pain and enhanced well being.
Conclusion
Kicking off your shoes and the barefoot lifestyle taps into our natural design and connects us more deeply with the world around us. From physical benefits like enhanced strength and posture to the grounding effects that boost our mental health the advantages of walking barefoot are clear. Listen to your body and start your barefoot journey today. Remember, it’s all about reconnecting with our roots and living more naturally. 🌍✨

Traditional Victorian recipe made better with the addition of chocolate, fills x6 one lb jars and each jar makes approximately 15 pies or one large tart.
Store in a cool dry place for 12 months for an even deeper flavour.
Unlike supermarket mincemeat, this recipe is naturally palm oil free when made using traditional ingredients (NOT Atora!), you could swap the animal fat for ghee or solid cocoa butter.
Go wild on the dried fruit, anything and everything works. This is a great area to play around and make extra special versions - like Cherry Brandied Chocolate! You can also swap or omit the nuts

2024-11-24 19:19:42Blockchain technology, particularly the Bitcoin blockchain, is poised to redefine the way we think about trust, ownership, and value in society. Its decentralized, transparent, and immutable nature sets the stage for a wave of innovation that will reshape industries, governance, and everyday life. While Bitcoin is most famously known as a digital currency, its underlying blockchain technology offers transformative potential far beyond finance. Let’s dive into how this technology could revolutionize the coming decades, from small-scale applications to global systemic change.
- Financial Inclusion and Empowerment
One of the most immediate impacts of blockchain technology is its ability to empower individuals who have been excluded from traditional financial systems. Over 1.4 billion adults globally remain unbanked, unable to access basic financial services due to lack of identification, credit history, or proximity to banks. Bitcoin’s blockchain offers a decentralized alternative.
With just a smartphone and internet access, anyone can participate in a global financial network. Peer-to-peer transactions eliminate the need for intermediaries, reducing costs and enabling borderless payments. This is particularly impactful in developing nations, where remittance fees from services like Western Union often consume a significant portion of the money sent home by workers abroad.
- Redefining Property and Ownership
The Bitcoin blockchain introduces a new era of digital ownership. By using public and private keys, individuals can prove ownership of assets without needing third parties. This concept extends beyond Bitcoin to include: • Tokenized Real Estate: Fractional ownership of property becomes possible, making investments accessible to more people. • Intellectual Property: Artists and creators can mint their work as non-fungible tokens (NFTs), securing royalties and ownership rights without intermediaries. • Supply Chain Transparency: Blockchain ensures the authenticity of goods by tracking their journey from origin to consumer, revolutionizing industries like food safety, luxury goods, and pharmaceuticals.
- Revolutionizing Governance
Blockchain’s transparency and immutability make it a powerful tool for improving governance and reducing corruption. Imagine a world where: • Voting: Elections are conducted on blockchain platforms, ensuring transparency and eliminating fraud. Citizens can verify their votes without compromising privacy. • Public Funds: Governments manage budgets and distribute aid using blockchain, providing real-time accountability for how tax dollars are spent. • Smart Contracts: Agreements are executed automatically when pre-defined conditions are met, removing bureaucratic delays and reducing legal disputes.
For example, countries experimenting with blockchain for land registries are reducing disputes over property rights while fostering economic stability.
- The Internet of Value
The internet revolutionized how we share information; blockchain is set to revolutionize how we exchange value. Bitcoin’s blockchain introduced the concept of digital scarcity—an asset that cannot be duplicated or counterfeited. This is the foundation of a new Internet of Value: • Micropayments: Services like podcasts, articles, or software can be monetized with tiny payments using the Lightning Network on Bitcoin, bypassing traditional subscription models. • Decentralized Finance (DeFi): Borrowing, lending, and saving can occur directly on blockchain platforms, offering alternatives to traditional banks with reduced fees and greater accessibility. • Global Trade: Blockchain enables faster, cheaper cross-border payments, reducing friction in global commerce and empowering small businesses to compete on a global scale.
- Revolutionizing Healthcare
Blockchain can revolutionize healthcare by improving data management and patient empowerment: • Medical Records: Patients can securely store and share their medical histories, ensuring accurate diagnosis and treatment while maintaining privacy. • Drug Authentication: Blockchain can track pharmaceuticals from production to patient, reducing counterfeit drugs. • Research Collaboration: Blockchain enables secure sharing of anonymized patient data among researchers, accelerating breakthroughs in medicine.
For example, during the COVID-19 pandemic, blockchain was explored as a way to verify vaccination records and ensure the integrity of supply chains for vaccines.
- Energy and Environmental Solutions
The energy sector stands to benefit significantly from blockchain technology: • Decentralized Energy Grids: Households with solar panels can trade excess energy with neighbors using blockchain-based platforms, fostering community-driven energy networks. • Carbon Credits: Blockchain ensures transparency in carbon credit trading, preventing fraud and incentivizing companies to reduce emissions. • Tracking Sustainability: Blockchain enables tracking of sustainable practices, from renewable energy usage to ethical sourcing of materials.
- Education and Credentialing
Blockchain can solve problems of credential verification and access to education: • Digital Diplomas: Educational institutions can issue tamper-proof certificates on a blockchain, streamlining job applications and international recognition of qualifications. • Lifelong Learning: Blockchain can track an individual’s learning journey across multiple institutions, enabling personalized education pathways and skills validation.
The Larger Vision: A Decentralized Future
At its core, blockchain is about decentralization—removing the need for trust in intermediaries and empowering individuals. This has profound implications for: • Freedom and Sovereignty: Bitcoin’s blockchain allows individuals to store and transfer value without fear of censorship, making it a tool for human rights in oppressive regimes. • Resilient Economies: Decentralized systems are less vulnerable to single points of failure, fostering robust economies and networks. • Global Collaboration: Blockchain can create a new era of cooperation, where value and ideas flow freely across borders without interference.
Challenges and the Road Ahead
While the potential of blockchain is enormous, challenges remain: • Scalability: Current blockchain networks, including Bitcoin, must continue to innovate to handle growing demand. • Regulation: Governments must balance innovation with oversight, ensuring blockchain is used responsibly without stifling growth. • Adoption: Educating the public and creating user-friendly interfaces are critical for mainstream adoption.
Despite these challenges, the trajectory is clear: blockchain is not a passing trend but a foundational technology that will shape the next several decades.
The Role of Bitcoin in Leading the Revolution
Bitcoin, as the first and most secure blockchain, will continue to lead this revolution. Its decentralized nature, proven security, and global recognition position it as the backbone of this transformation. While other blockchains may serve specialized purposes, Bitcoin’s role as digital gold and a store of value ensures its enduring relevance.
The Bitcoin blockchain’s influence will extend far beyond currency. It is the blueprint for how trust, ownership, and value can exist in a digital age—transparent, immutable, and accessible to all.
As we look to the future, blockchain technology represents not just a technological revolution but a societal shift toward empowerment, transparency, and decentralization. From small changes in everyday transactions to large-scale systemic transformation, blockchain has the potential to touch every aspect of our lives, ushering in a more equitable and connected world.

2024-11-05 08:48:41Last week, an investigation by Reuters revealed that Chinese researchers have been using open-source AI tools to build nefarious-sounding models that may have some military application.
The reporting purports that adversaries in the Chinese Communist Party and its military wing are taking advantage of the liberal software licensing of American innovations in the AI space, which could someday have capabilities to presumably harm the United States.
In a June paper reviewed by Reuters, six Chinese researchers from three institutions, including two under the People’s Liberation Army’s (PLA) leading research body, the Academy of Military Science (AMS), detailed how they had used an early version of Meta’s Llama as a base for what it calls “ChatBIT”.
The researchers used an earlier Llama 13B large language model (LLM) from Meta, incorporating their own parameters to construct a military-focused AI tool to gather and process intelligence, and offer accurate and reliable information for operational decision-making.
While I’m doubtful that today’s existing chatbot-like tools will be the ultimate battlefield for a new geopolitical war (queue up the computer-simulated war from the Star Trek episode “A Taste of Armageddon“), this recent exposé requires us to revisit why large language models are released as open-source code in the first place.
Added to that, should it matter that an adversary is having a poke around and may ultimately use them for some purpose we may not like, whether that be China, Russia, North Korea, or Iran?
The number of open-source AI LLMs continues to grow each day, with projects like Vicuna, LLaMA, BLOOMB, Falcon, and Mistral available for download. In fact, there are over one million open-source LLMs available as of writing this post. With some decent hardware, every global citizen can download these codebases and run them on their computer.
With regard to this specific story, we could assume it to be a selective leak by a competitor of Meta which created the LLaMA model, intended to harm its reputation among those with cybersecurity and national security credentials. There are potentially trillions of dollars on the line.
Or it could be the revelation of something more sinister happening in the military-sponsored labs of Chinese hackers who have already been caught attacking American infrastructure, data, and yes, your credit history?
As consumer advocates who believe in the necessity of liberal democracies to safeguard our liberties against authoritarianism, we should absolutely remain skeptical when it comes to the communist regime in Beijing. We’ve written as much many times.
At the same time, however, we should not subrogate our own critical thinking and principles because it suits a convenient narrative.
Consumers of all stripes deserve technological freedom, and innovators should be free to provide that to us. And open-source software has provided the very foundations for all of this.
Open-source matters When we discuss open-source software and code, what we’re really talking about is the ability for people other than the creators to use it.
The various licensing schemes – ranging from GNU General Public License (GPL) to the MIT License and various public domain classifications – determine whether other people can use the code, edit it to their liking, and run it on their machine. Some licenses even allow you to monetize the modifications you’ve made.
While many different types of software will be fully licensed and made proprietary, restricting or even penalizing those who attempt to use it on their own, many developers have created software intended to be released to the public. This allows multiple contributors to add to the codebase and to make changes to improve it for public benefit.
Open-source software matters because anyone, anywhere can download and run the code on their own. They can also modify it, edit it, and tailor it to their specific need. The code is intended to be shared and built upon not because of some altruistic belief, but rather to make it accessible for everyone and create a broad base. This is how we create standards for technologies that provide the ground floor for further tinkering to deliver value to consumers.
Open-source libraries create the building blocks that decrease the hassle and cost of building a new web platform, smartphone, or even a computer language. They distribute common code that can be built upon, assuring interoperability and setting standards for all of our devices and technologies to talk to each other.
I am myself a proponent of open-source software. The server I run in my home has dozens of dockerized applications sourced directly from open-source contributors on GitHub and DockerHub. When there are versions or adaptations that I don’t like, I can pick and choose which I prefer. I can even make comments or add edits if I’ve found a better way for them to run.
Whether you know it or not, many of you run the Linux operating system as the base for your Macbook or any other computer and use all kinds of web tools that have active repositories forked or modified by open-source contributors online. This code is auditable by everyone and can be scrutinized or reviewed by whoever wants to (even AI bots).
This is the same software that runs your airlines, powers the farms that deliver your food, and supports the entire global monetary system. The code of the first decentralized cryptocurrency Bitcoin is also open-source, which has allowed thousands of copycat protocols that have revolutionized how we view money.
You know what else is open-source and available for everyone to use, modify, and build upon?
PHP, Mozilla Firefox, LibreOffice, MySQL, Python, Git, Docker, and WordPress. All protocols and languages that power the web. Friend or foe alike, anyone can download these pieces of software and run them how they see fit.
Open-source code is speech, and it is knowledge.
We build upon it to make information and technology accessible. Attempts to curb open-source, therefore, amount to restricting speech and knowledge.
Open-source is for your friends, and enemies In the context of Artificial Intelligence, many different developers and companies have chosen to take their large language models and make them available via an open-source license.
At this very moment, you can click on over to Hugging Face, download an AI model, and build a chatbot or scripting machine suited to your needs. All for free (as long as you have the power and bandwidth).
Thousands of companies in the AI sector are doing this at this very moment, discovering ways of building on top of open-source models to develop new apps, tools, and services to offer to companies and individuals. It’s how many different applications are coming to life and thousands more jobs are being created.
We know this can be useful to friends, but what about enemies?
As the AI wars heat up between liberal democracies like the US, the UK, and (sluggishly) the European Union, we know that authoritarian adversaries like the CCP and Russia are building their own applications.
The fear that China will use open-source US models to create some kind of military application is a clear and present danger for many political and national security researchers, as well as politicians.
A bipartisan group of US House lawmakers want to put export controls on AI models, as well as block foreign access to US cloud servers that may be hosting AI software.
If this seems familiar, we should also remember that the US government once classified cryptography and encryption as “munitions” that could not be exported to other countries (see The Crypto Wars). Many of the arguments we hear today were invoked by some of the same people as back then.
Now, encryption protocols are the gold standard for many different banking and web services, messaging, and all kinds of electronic communication. We expect our friends to use it, and our foes as well. Because code is knowledge and speech, we know how to evaluate it and respond if we need to.
Regardless of who uses open-source AI, this is how we should view it today. These are merely tools that people will use for good or ill. It’s up to governments to determine how best to stop illiberal or nefarious uses that harm us, rather than try to outlaw or restrict building of free and open software in the first place.
Limiting open-source threatens our own advancement If we set out to restrict and limit our ability to create and share open-source code, no matter who uses it, that would be tantamount to imposing censorship. There must be another way.
If there is a “Hundred Year Marathon” between the United States and liberal democracies on one side and autocracies like the Chinese Communist Party on the other, this is not something that will be won or lost based on software licenses. We need as much competition as possible.
The Chinese military has been building up its capabilities with trillions of dollars’ worth of investments that span far beyond AI chatbots and skip logic protocols.
The theft of intellectual property at factories in Shenzhen, or in US courts by third-party litigation funding coming from China, is very real and will have serious economic consequences. It may even change the balance of power if our economies and countries turn to war footing.
But these are separate issues from the ability of free people to create and share open-source code which we can all benefit from. In fact, if we want to continue our way our life and continue to add to global productivity and growth, it’s demanded that we defend open-source.
If liberal democracies want to compete with our global adversaries, it will not be done by reducing the freedoms of citizens in our own countries.

2024-11-03 12:01:43It arrived!
I was feeling impatient, waiting for my snazzy, brand-spanking new mobile phone to arrive, but when it got here, I just stared at the box, in trepidation. Everyone kept walking by, asking how it is, but I just shook my head. After nearly four years, with my (originally Android 10), Moto G8 Power, which I loved to death, I wasn't yet ready to move on. I needed a moment, to grieve.
RIP, my trusty fren.
Anyways...
Around 10 pm, I managed to emotionally recover enough to begin the Big Transition, and I was up until 2 am, and still didn't finish.
My SimpleX database is sort of large, and slow to migrate. Also, took me a while to figure out how to do it, and the whole thing made me terribly nervous, that I'd accidentally get locked out. But it worked, after eight failed attempts, so yay.
Telegram was back online, almost immediately, since it's tied to the SIM card. Which was convenient, but sorta creeped me out.
Our family-internal favorite, Threema, was a snap. Took 5 minutes.
I had four failed starts with Slack, as it kept sending a login code to my Proton Mail, but I didn't have Proton app installed on my new phone, yet, and I was really sleepy, so I kept confirming on the old phone and then Slack would freeze up, and I had to kill the process and restart.
My key manager is cloud-based, so that went really fast, and I had the nos2x browser extension going in Firefox within 10 minutes, or so. Logged into Habla.News, Nostr.Build, Zap.Cooking, and Nostrudel.Ninja, immediately, so that I can get my Nostr fix.
Then I took a deep breath and mass-installed F-Droid, Minibits, Amethyst, Citrine, Orbot, and Amber. And breathed out, again, because MIRACLES NEVER CEASE: it seems to be actually working.
Everyone knows that this is the unbeatable Android Nostr setup, but it's also a resource-gobbling monster, that should only be tried at home, kids. Make sure you don't use Amethyst when out-and-about, unless you have a gigantic battery and an unlimited, high-speed, mobile plan. So, basically, everyone in the First World, who isn't me, can do it.
Oh, well. At least, I can now indulge over WiFi.
The phone itself is just like the old one, but thinner, faster, and doesn't freeze up or take a long time to start. The Motorola is dead. Long live the Motorola.

2024-11-24 18:59:19Youth unemployment is often linked to a range of issues such as high crime rates among youth and riots. Young people are still unemployed because of the various challenges facing young people. This includes laziness in young people who make them reluctant to seek employment which is why they remain unemployed for a long time because of these social structures. These two fundamental effects of unemployment can lead to social degradation when it reaches uncontrollable levels. Unemployment remains a major cause of social ills, which are often associated with high levels of unemployment. These social ills cannot be predicted when they will occur, but they will certainly occur when unemployment becomes uncontrollable. Youth unemployment can be described as a time bomb waiting to explode. The current generation of young people has become the most prepared generation in the history of the region, so it makes sense to promote job creation related to the fields of education or technology for many young people, that is, to take advantage of population comparison. For example, if the majority of young people are studying social science, it is easy to encourage the creation of a service sector. As can be seen, the role of the State is crucial to improving the situation; however, the government must ensure clean communication between itself and the various sectors of society if a real solution is to be achieved.

2024-11-24 18:35:52We are about to witness the power of exponential growth in bitcoin.
Many predict bitcoin's price to be in the millions one day.
I am one of those people.
Many also predict it will take 50 years to get there.
I am not one of those people.
Bitcoin has gone from $350 to $93,000 in less than a decade.
Many believe the big growth is behind us.
But only 1% of the world owns bitcoin.
What about the other 99%?
What happens when they're all trying to get their hands on a scarce asset with a fixed supply?
It's something the world has never seen before.
Let me say that part again.
Something the world has never seen before.
Let's use an example of exponential growth.
Imagine a football stadium being filled with water.
Every minute one drop is added.
The number of drops doubles every minute.
It goes from 1 to 2, to 4, to 8, 16, 32, 64, etc.
How long would it take to fill the entire stadium?
A day? A week? A year?!
How about 50 minutes.
And the crazy part - how full is it after 45 minutes?
Most would guess 70-90%.
Wrong.
After 45 minutes the stadium is only 7% full.
In the final 5 minutes, the stadium goes from 7% full to 100% full.
I believe there are three triggers that will occur that will send bitcoin from $93,000 to $93 million.
-
Wall Street can participate
-
A major country starts buying as a strategic reserve
-
The price hits $1 million
The first has already happened.
The second one is likely to happen in a few months.
And the third will follow shortly after.
Wall Street was important because that's where all the BIG money is.
The US strategic bitcoin reserve will force all countries to start printing money and buying bitcoin.
And when the price hits $1 million, we will start pricing satoshis instead of bitcoin.
1 sat will equal 1 cent.
In a decade from now, no one will know what the price of bitcoin is.
They will know how much a satoshi costs.
Keep in mind, there are 100 million satoshis in 1 bitcoin.
Think of it like dollars and cents.
This is when the exponential growth will kick in - and it's much closer than we think.
Moral of the story?
Don't focus on the price.
Focus on getting as many satoshis as you possibly can.
And invest some time and money into securing those satoshis.

2024-11-24 18:33:50I thought I'd share the excellent review posted by Worn & Wound of my Prometheus Ocean Diver watch design. It is a very thorough review with some incredible photos.
Snippet from Worn & Wound Review
"Turns out, not everything we lionize from our past holds up so well today. A few things, however, transcend their era and are worth returning to because their qualities aren't reliant upon the culture that bore them. I'd place the Ocean Diver in this category, while fully acknowledging the irony that its creation is intrinsically linked to watch collection culture of the late aughts.
There is an indefinable quality about the Ocean Diver that sets it apart from its contemporaries, such as the Ocean 7 LM-2, early Christopher Ward divers, and Seiko's SKX watches. The internal bezel, the design of the hour markers, including the oversized numerals at 6, 9 and 12 o'clock, the porthole shaped case design and its bead blasted texture all add up to something of an unusual experience that was wholly original at the time, and remains so today.”
Original Design Concept
Below is my original design illustration which I produced using Adobe Illustrator. You'll notice that several of my design elements were changed in the final production version. For example, the hands were supposed to be much larger and with more lume for greater visibility, something that was pointed out as a negative of the production version in the Worn & Wound review, but as you can see by my design was never my intention.
I'm incredibly proud of my design. Having it go into production, even with minor changes, is a watch lover's (and designer's) dream come true! I never get tired of seeing photographs shared on social media of my watches being worn and enjoyed by their owners.

2024-11-24 18:25:29I just made my first batch of Paleo beef jerky and the results are so good that I thought I'd share it with you. My entire house smells of beef jerky right now and it's driving my dog crazy - poor thing.
What's Paleo?
I'm not going to go into the details, but simply put it's a way of eating that best mimics the diets of our paleolithic hunter-gatherer ancestors - lean meats, seafood, vegetables, fruits, and nuts. If you're interested take a look here: The Paleo Diet.
I've been gradually getting more and more serious about eating a paleo diet as a lifestyle and wanted to see if I could find a recipe that I could use for making beef jerky that would be suitable = no soy sauce, besides other things. I was sent two really good examples of paleo jerky recipes from @paleoonabudget via Twitter (love how social tools connect us) and thought that they both sounded good enough to try. Here they are: Food Lover's Kitchen Beef Jerky, and Jen's Gone Paleo Really Tasty Beef Jerky.
My Version
Always one to tinker and hack with something, I adjusted and combined aspects from both recipes to come up with one that sounded good to me. Here's what I ended up with:
- Flank steak as lean as possible (grass-fed), trim any excess fat
- 1 cup raw coconut aminos (it's a substitute for soy sauce)
- 1 cup of organic apple juice (make sure there are no additives)
- 1 cup of pineapple juice (again, no additives)
- 1 tbsp fresh ground black pepper
- 1 tsp of paprika
- 1 tsp of garlic powder
- Lime juice (not in the marinade)
Steak strips in the marinade
I used a nice cut of flank steak (personal preference) and made sure to trim off all excess fat, although there was hardly any. I put the steak in the freezer for an hour or two to make slicing it into thin strips a little easier.
Then I put all of the other ingredients (the marinade) into a Pyrex dish and added the sliced steak pieces, making sure that all of the steak was covered or submerged. I think I topped up with a little extra of both juices. I covered this and put it in the fridge overnight.
Dehydrating - Making it Jerky!
The next day (around noon) I removed the marinading steak from the fridge and let it drain through a small sieve for a minute or two to get the excess liquid off. No need to get my dehydrator into a big mess if I can easily avoid it. I used my old faithful L'Equip 528 6-tray Dehydrator. I love this machine!
Steak strips on dehydrator tray
I gave the entire batch of steak a heavy dose of freshly squeezed lime juice, all over. I was very heavy handed with the lime (thinking this would be my "secret sauce"). Then I arranged the pieces of steak onto the drying sheets (mine has six) making sure to leave a lot of room around each piece.
Temperature dial on L'Equip
I set the temperature gauge to half way between 125F and 153F (\~135F) and turned it on. At this point I went out to take care of some errands - nothing you would be interested in. When I got back a few hours later, I was greeted by the smell of beef jerky as I opened the front door - wow!
The jerky had been drying for about four hours while I was gone and much to my surprise was completely done. In fact it could have come out a little bit sooner to be even better, but that's my fault for going away and leaving it. When I make jerky using ground beef it takes a lot, lot, longer - more than twice as long.
I hope you enjoy this recipe!
The end result is absolutely delicious. The combination of the fruit juices, coconut aminos and spices gives the steak an amazing, slightly citrus flavor. I wish you could try some, it's soooo good!

The adventures of Nostr Valley began when I was invited to speak on a food panel alongside Seth, the founder of Zap.Cooking, at Happy Valley Brewing in State College Park, Pennsylvania.
Over the course of a month before the event, a fellow fun enthusiast known as The Beave organized a weekend filled with activities and accommodations, including a visit to a gun range and a stay at a charming three-bedroom countryside rental nestled among Pennsylvania's most scenic farm hills.
The Nostr Valley weekend had finally arrived, and I was set to drive six and a half hours to a small airport primarily used by skydivers and flying enthusiasts who park their personal planes in rented hangars. I was to meet a pilot who went by the name "Choke This." Despite the somewhat ominous name, my faith in the Nostr web of trust circles provided a sense of safety as I prepared to fly to Pennsylvania. Still, the thought of traveling alone to a remote area did cross my mind a few times. While it may not have been the wisest decision, I had faith in Nostr.
I began my journey at 1 am, getting ready and preparing my car before hitting the highway around 4 am. Driving on the empty roads was a pleasant experience, and I felt even better when I arrived at the well-kept airport on a beautiful sunny morning at 10:30 am, with not a single cloud in the sky. I knew it was a perfect day for skydiving, which alleviated one of the many flying-related nerves swirling in my head. Great weather? Check!
https://i.nostr.build/LXFm0A5hqmXgo9O0.jpg
After a brief introduction to the non-threatening pilot, we loaded our gear into the rear of the plane and settled in for takeoff, complete with those cool headphones. As we patiently waited for all the skydivers to land from their jumps, I received a crash course on plane safety in case of an emergency landing.
We made our way to the small runway, and with a gentle breeze, we were soaring into the blue skies. The view was absolutely breathtaking. Every time I fly, the scenery reminds me of the model city in the Beetlejuice movie.
For the next three hours, the pilot and I got to know each other. We shared our Nostr stories, backgrounds, and family lives. The pilot also gave an impressive presentation on the features of his aircraft, including a lesson on how to read knots—the unit of speed.
We landed in Maryland to pick up another panel speaker, Mr. Scott Churchill, who would be joining the art panel with Dan, the creator of the Nostr-only comic "Bread and Toast." Scott is a loving father with remarkable artistic skills that included drawing and music.
The three of us entered the airport restaurant and took a window seat overlooking the runway to grab a quick bite. This is where I was introduced to Maryland’s love for Old Bay seasoning. The pilot was eager to order crab cakes, and I was initially going to join him, but as soon as I spotted "CRAB SOUP" on the menu board, my food plans changed. Once we ordered, the food arrived fairly quickly. The kind server placed a bowl of soup in front of me, complete with extra crackers and an Old Bay salt shaker. My face lit up as I exclaimed, “What is this!?” Scott explained that Old Bay is a staple in these parts. I poured the seasoning into my soup and took a taste. “I’m going to do this at home,” I declared before even swallowing the first spoonful. I devoured the rest of the soup, sprinkling Old Bay each time I removed a layer of the flavorful creamy broth. I was hooked.
https://i.nostr.build/CWrwAxMADw18G8m5.jpg https://i.nostr.build/QgRqUJy7EdVEVNQc.jpg
Once lunch was finished, we boarded the plane. I offered the front seat to Scott since it was his first time flying. He was a mix of emotions about the flight, but he did amazing and even got to fly the plane!
When we landed in State College Park, Pennsylvania, it felt as though we had become a family. There’s nothing quite like trusting strangers with your life for several hours in a flying machine to foster a sense of camaraderie.
We were off to meet our fourth companion—the organizer, the maestro, the one and only, THE BEAVE! He awaited us at the house, and upon our arrival, we felt an immediate sense of comfort.
The house was beautiful, the people were friendly, and it was time to invite other speakers and guests over for a magical steak dinner. Beave started the bonfire while the pilot fired up the grill. Guests began to arrive.
The steaks were so thick and stacked that I dubbed it "Steak Jenga." The guests gathered around the impressive pile of perfectly cooked meat, each grabbing a steak as large as their faces.

After dinner, I had the opportunity to taste one of the best-flavored vodkas I had ever encountered: Blake’s Limited Edition x Gypsy Spirits’ Apple Pie Vodka, a vodka infused with Apple Cider & Cinnamon.
https://i.nostr.build/YHt8Em9wSJNGPqGs.jpg
I called it an early night due to all the traveling and being awake since 1 am, especially since I would be speaking on my first panel the next day. I wanted to be fresh and alert for the event. As soon as my head touched the pillow, I fell into a deep sleep. When I woke early the next morning, I felt rested and ready to conquer the day.
Beave and I were the only ones awake, so we headed to the nearest country store to see what breakfast supplies they offered. Upon entering the store, we found a convenience section on the left and a sit-down breakfast and lunch area on the right. We made our way to the cold section, where we discovered local dairy farm milk in half-gallon glass containers for only $3! I had to grab a jug. There were also small bottles of flavored milk, including strawberry milk, for less than $1.50.
https://i.nostr.build/KtCMvKOsTYIozmA8.jpg
Beave and I picked up some eggs and butter, but the real treasure was the donuts. The lady behind the register was an excellent saleswoman, encouraging us to take home a container of these fluffy looking treats. I noticed Beave had already bought some right before I made my way to the register, so I thought, "Why not?" I grabbed a container of smaller individual donuts that would be perfect for sharing with the house.
Once we got to the car, we each took a bite of a donut and immediately began scarfing it down in ecstasy. It was moist, and the bakers hadn’t skimped on the glaze. There was no oily aftertaste—just rich, sweet goodness that I would absolutely recommend.
After returning to the house, we served breakfast and started getting dressed for Nostr Valley.
At this point, I was a bundle of nerves. As we arrived at Happy Valley Brewing, it was heartening to see so many familiar faces from Nostr. Avi Burra, author and host of Plebchain Radio, began hosting the event, introducing all the speakers and panels. Derek Ross, one of the organizers of Nostr Valley, opened the show with a "Nostr 101" speech. Then, the art panel, moderated by Seth—my “boss” from Zap.Cooking—featured Dan and Scott. Avi then demonstrated his Nostr medical application. The food crew, consisting of Seth and me, followed next, moderated by Boston Wine. Next Block made their rounds with Mandana and Ian. The Other Nostr Apps panel featured Derek, Vic, Boston Wine, and Avi. The infamous Open Mike spoke about music with Derek, and the event concluded with closing remarks from the two organizers.
https://i.nostr.build/aoplHjfLu6oJPGr1.png (see the Community Photo Album for more pictures)
This was my first time speaking on a panel, and to say I was nervous would be an understatement. I practically clung to Seth the entire time and felt as though I blacked out while speaking. Nevertheless, I was proud to have made it through.
Afterward, a large group of us headed to the American Ale House, where we had a private section of the restaurant reserved. Avi and Derek’s shared dish was particularly notable—a nearly $90 certified angus beef tomahawk steak weighing in at 44 ounces.
https://i.nostr.build/Jk5ZJwd8VoBQQGTT.jpg https://i.nostr.build/7ydShpbQasVMp3hT.webp
For the afterparty, we invited everyone to a bonfire and podcast session at our VRBO for mini podcast recordings. However, I ended up successfully talking for 45 minutes with the first attendee, and by then, everyone else grew tired of waiting. I was ready for bed after such a long day.
On Sunday morning, the sun streamed through my window as I woke up, and I realized it was shooting range day! Beave and I headed over to the country store for more donuts, but unfortunately, it was closed on Sundays. We took a drive to fill up the car with gas and grabbed a breakfast sandwich or two at the gas station. We gathered the rest of the group and made our way to PGC Scotia Shooting Range, where we spent six hours shooting a variety of guns outdoors.
https://i.nostr.build/D3v1y8MebC1lzaa8.jpg
When we returned, we were starving and enjoyed a pleasant pheasant dinner filled with lively conversation.
https://i.nostr.build/M98NWu0oXaVKADaT.jpg https://i.nostr.build/hxp68wsP5Q4QUp4S.jpg
On Monday, we checked out of the VRBO. The day was cloudy, and the first part of the flight home was bumpy, but the sky cleared after we dropped off the other speaker. Once we landed back at the skydiving airport, I spent the rest of the evening driving home, finally walking in the door at 2 am.
My favorite part of the weekend wasn’t the speaking on stage or all the activities; it was the friendships I gained over those three days. I am truly grateful.

MICROFICTION 📖
TRICK OR TREAT? | Rustypuppy
“Remember, look into her orange eye, ask for a trick, and say ‘please.’” Janice fluffed the mane of my son’s lion costume and gave him a little push toward the dilapidated barn, decked out in creepy Halloween glory, complete with skeleton graveyard, tree ghosts, and a giant roof spider with glowing eyes.
Henry took two steps forward, then glanced back at me. I smiled and nodded. His brow furrowed, then he got in line with the other kids waiting for their turn at Granny Baba’s front door.
“You’re not traumatizing my five year old for life, are you?” I asked our babysitter.
The teen laughed. “He’s a brave little guy. I didn’t face her until I was seven. Relax, pops. Granny Baba is a rite of passage in this town. He’ll fit in better once he can say he got his trick. Besides, sometimes you gotta go through the scary to get to the good.”
After twelve minutes and eleven seconds, my son ran toward us, his face shining with joy. “I got the trick!” He showed off his jack o’ lantern candy bucket, which had contained the usual assortment of wrapped sugar and artificial ingredients, and now also held a clear plastic bag filled with lumpy darkness.
I side-eyed Janice as she took out the bag, opened it, and ate a handful. Henry did the same before I could stop him.
“This is …. good,” he said, frowning and chewing at the same time. “What’s the trick?”
“It’s healthy,” Janice replied. “All natural, sprouted granola.”

2024-11-24 16:48:15A Personal Journey
I recently created a blog using npub.pro to consolidate my Nostr and Stacker News longform posts in one place. It's been a fun experiment, with surprising results.
https://thebloghustle.npub.pro/
Primal now displays my SN and Nostr posts through a selection on my profile screen, and users are able to highlight, zap, and comment on the highlights of my articles.
I need to write more, the blog will be something of an open diary, detailing my personal experience with Nostr and bitcoin.
Why Nostr Outshines Substack and Medium
Nostr in my opinion has already surpassed the legacy blogging platforms. Functionalities like zapping, highlighting, and commenting, are fun and cool, but when added to Nostr's interconnectivity something magical appears. I had no idea my cross posted SN longform posts would be found in npub.pro, and I didn't know npub.pro had added longform support. Primal 2.0 was pretty much the nail in the coffin, the most popular Nostr client just added a reads section, supporting longform content. Nostr freaks like to talk about sovereignty and decentralization and owning your online identity, but the main attraction will probably be zaps, interconnectivity, and a more optimal UX.
Npub.pro, Cypher.space, Blogspot.io, Highlighter, Stacker News, Primal 2.0 and Yakihonne, are just the beginnings, but offer an amazing glimpse at what the future has in store. Keep in mind that these sites are sharing an average of around 10k daily active users, we'll see an explosion of content and a diversity of content because these platforms offer incentives and functionalities that you don't see elsewhere, as bitcoin becomes less taboo, and as the early adopter phase of these products comes to a close, we'll probably see v4v censorship resistance and digital ownership immensely supporting the underdog, the same underdog that just came over for the ease of use and hype.
So with that being said, highlight away. Let me know what you guys think about blogging on Nostr and if you think these are just the ramblings of a madman, or bland and obvious observations.
Thanks, Hustle

2024-10-26 13:39:00[Week 21-10] I thinks that Saylor is on right, don't trust verify, is bullshit Bitcoin is a financial tool! I think it's good for me to get away from social media once a week. I could do things outside, like walking. Take pictures of the landscape. The weirdest thing is when the alarm calls you up in an hour.
Fiatjaf wants a cache client. I feel like I can do it, I have the set to do it, but nostrudel is no longer working, so it's a little murky. Next nostrudel does not accept changes to settings (It works now!), so maybe i can think something. I want to make a corny chat, test, read this article. Nostr doesn't work with a vpn because relays don't know who you are. jokes aside, some clients have difficulties.
I couldn't take pictures of the landscape if I didn't take the wind blades. Small local controversy.
Missing the point of content creator. Simply for final user, Simply for the creator, new feature, no missing nothing. I'm trying to limit everything to writing for a week. I almost did. Maybe another week can do well.
Meanwhile I updated apps like Amber and Voyager, coracle, nostrmo.
The experiment continues with open vibe following the trending of Nostr. I'm following almost 120 npub. He'll stop, I don't know, possible he's already reached the limit. You still can't block words on the Nostr side of Open, strange thing. The app doesn't count the follow well, still some problem cleaning the cache seems that it doesn't need. After a while open and close and seems updated. I wanted to try open librarian, but I was busy sending fake zap on Nostr. This morning i try and It keeps giving me error 500 when I try to connect to a relay.
I hate when a profile follows everyone indistinctly, why does everyone follow? and in voyage, I read with WoT setting, I probably have to do unfollow. There must be an indication in which not include the followers of this person in the web of trust, I would do it by default if you follow more than 600 people.

INTRODUCTION
Thromboembolic prophylaxis in hospitalized patients is a critical intervention to reduce the risk of thrombotic events, one of the leading causes of morbidity and mortality in hospitals. Prolonged immobilization, along with other risk factors such as surgeries, trauma, comorbidities, and specific treatments, significantly increases the possibility of developing deep vein thrombosis (DVT) or pulmonary embolism (PE), which are serious conditions requiring rapid intervention and can threaten the patient's life.
In Argentina, the incidence of venous thromboembolism in hospitalized patients is high and represents a significant clinical challenge. It is estimated that hospitalization increases the likelihood of a thromboembolic event by 10 times compared to the general population. Implementing effective thromboprophylaxis strategies can reduce this incidence, optimizing patient safety and reducing both the costs associated with complications and the duration of hospitalization.
This guide aims to standardize the use of thromboprophylaxis in our institution, improving the identification of at-risk patients and promoting safe interventions based on updated scientific evidence.
GENERAL RECOMMENDATIONS FOR THROMBOPROPHYLAXIS
General indications for thromboprophylaxis are essential to ensure safety and effectiveness in preventing thromboembolic events. The following general recommendations are provided:
Patients without prior anticoagulation: Recommendations apply only to patients who were not receiving oral anticoagulation before hospitalization. Initial Evaluation: Prior to starting prophylaxis, a complete blood count, prothrombin time, aPTT, platelet count, and an estimation of renal function through creatinine clearance should be obtained. Conditions for Surgical Patients: All recommendations for surgical patients assume no intraoperative hemorrhagic complications and adequate hemostasis. Special Cases Evaluation: Prophylaxis in patients with extreme weight (under 40 kg or over 100 kg) or renal insufficiency with a clearance of less than 30 ml/min should be evaluated by a Hematology specialist. Early Mobilization: Routine early mobilization is recommended for all patients, as long as it is safe.
RISK SCALE APPLICATION
The assessment of thromboembolic event risk should begin with correct categorization of the patient.
Risk Factors for Venous Thromboembolism (VTE) during hospitalization include: prolonged immobility (more than 2 days in bed), active neoplasms, stroke, heart failure, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, acute infections, rheumatoid arthritis, ANCA-positive vasculitis, and inflammatory bowel disease. These clinical conditions account for approximately 75% of fatal pulmonary thromboembolisms (PE), highlighting the importance of adequate antithrombotic prophylaxis. Risk scales are designed to categorize both thromboembolic risk and bleeding risk associated with thromboprophylaxis. The bleeding risk, whether major or clinically relevant, increases with the use of pharmacological prophylaxis. However, fatal bleeding is 10 times less frequent than fatal PE.
CONTRAINDICATIONS FOR THROMBOPROPHYLAXIS
General contraindications for pharmacological thromboprophylaxis in hospitalized patients aim to prevent hemorrhagic complications. The main contraindications are:
Clinically significant active hemorrhage. Platelet count less than 30,000 platelets/ml. Major bleeding disorders. Active intracranial hemorrhage. Recent peri-spinal hemorrhage. Recent surgery with a high risk of bleeding.
It is crucial to carefully evaluate these contraindications before initiating any thromboprophylaxis protocol.
INDICATION FOR THROMBOPROPHYLAXIS IN NON-SURGICAL HOSPITALIZED PATIENTS
Validated scales help categorize the risk and indication for venous thromboembolism (VTE) in hospitalized patients with non-surgical conditions: the IMPROVE-VTE scale, which considers a high risk for scores above 2 and very high risk for scores above 4, with additional factors such as elevated D-dimer, advanced age, cancer history, or previous VTE.
To assess bleeding risk, the IMPROVE-Bleed scale identifies high risk with scores of 7 or higher. Patients with high VTE risk and low bleeding risk should receive prophylaxis until discharge, and in high-risk cases, it should be extended afterward.

In non-ambulatory surgeries, the risk of venous thromboembolism (VTE) varies depending on the patient's risk factors and the type of surgery. Thus, individual risk stratification using the Caprini scale is imperative. Patients undergoing general surgery with moderate or higher thrombotic risk (3 points or more) and no increased bleeding risk should receive pharmacological thromboprophylaxis.

INDICATION FOR THROMBOPROPHYLAXIS IN ORTHOPEDIC SURGERY PATIENTS
Major orthopedic surgeries, including total hip arthroplasty (THA), total knee arthroplasty (TKA), and hip fracture surgery (HFS), pose a high risk of thrombotic complications (40%-60% without proper thromboprophylaxis). Pharmacological prophylaxis is always recommended regardless of individual risk factors.
Special Considerations:
In outpatient knee arthroscopy, early ambulation is encouraged. Prophylaxis with low molecular weight heparin (LMWH) for at least 7 days should be considered only in patients with high thrombotic risk (e.g., cancer, prior VTE, obesity, pregnancy, or postpartum). For immobilization lasting more than 7 days due to fractures, tendinous/cartilaginous ruptures, or soft tissue injuries below the patella with risk factors, pharmacological prophylaxis with LMWH is recommended. In spinal surgeries, mechanical prophylaxis with graduated compression stockings (GCS) and early ambulation are advised. For prolonged procedures (> 1 hour) with risk factors, pharmacological prophylaxis (Enoxaparin 40 mg/day or UFH 5000 U every 8-12 hours) is recommended 24 hours post-surgery until discharge. Major trauma patients should receive mechanical prophylaxis (CNI or GCS) combined with Enoxaparin 40 mg/day, provided there is no increased bleeding risk, from admission to discharge, including the rehabilitation period.
Recommendations for Orthopedic Surgery: Population Recommended Indication Alternative Comments Duration Scheduled hip and knee surgery Apixaban 2.5 mg every 12 hours None Start 12 hours after surgery 28-35 days (hip), 14 days (knee), extend up to 35 days Dabigatran 220 mg every 24 hours None Start 110 mg 4 hours after surgery, then continue with 220 mg
Enoxaparin 40 mg every 24 hours None Start 12 hours after surgery
Rivaroxaban 10 mg every 24 hours None Start 6 hours after surgery Hip fracture Enoxaparin 40 mg every 24 hours UFH 5000 U every 8 or 12 hours Administer from admission and 8-12 hours before surgery; restart 8-12 hours post-surgery 14-35 daysINDICATION FOR THROMBOPROPHYLAXIS IN OBSTETRICS
Postpartum hemorrhage is the leading cause of maternal death in developing countries, while venous thromboembolic disease (VTE) is the leading cause in developed countries. Pregnant women are 4-10 times more likely to develop VTE than non-pregnant women. Although the incidence of VTE during pregnancy is low (1-2 per 1000 pregnancies), it is considered a preventable cause of maternal death.
INDICATION FOR THROMBOPROPHYLAXIS IN COVID-19 HOSPITALIZED PATIENTS
COVID-19 infection is associated with an increased risk of venous thromboembolism, particularly in ICU patients. These patients are considered at high thrombotic risk during hospitalization, with significantly elevated D-dimer levels linked to greater risk of severe complications, including death and disseminated intravascular coagulation.
Recommendations:
Thromboprophylaxis with subcutaneous Enoxaparin 40 mg/day is suggested for all hospitalized patients with severe COVID-19, provided no contraindications exist, throughout their hospital stay.

2024-11-24 16:34:49The concept of Near-Death Experiences (NDEs) has captivated human curiosity for decades, blending the realms of science, spirituality, and the mysteries of consciousness. These profound experiences, reported by individuals who have come close to death, offer glimpses of what might lie beyond the physical world. NDEs typically include vivid visions, encounters with loved ones, feelings of peace, and a sense of transcending the body. But what do they truly mean? And what can we learn from them?
The modern exploration of NDEs began with Dr. Raymond Moody, who brought the phenomenon to mainstream attention with his groundbreaking 1975 book, Life After Life. In it, Moody documented over 150 accounts of people who described similar out-of-body experiences, journeys through tunnels of light, and encounters with an overwhelming sense of love. His work was among the first to systematize and analyze NDEs, sparking a wave of research into what had often been dismissed as anecdotal or hallucinatory. Moody coined the term “Near-Death Experience,” forever changing the discourse around these events.
**Dr. Eben Alexander: A Neurosurgeon’s Extraordinary Journey ** One of the most compelling modern stories of an NDE comes from Dr. Eben Alexander, a neurosurgeon who once believed that consciousness was entirely a product of the brain. In his book, Proof of Heaven: A Neurosurgeon’s Journey into the Afterlife, Alexander recounts his near-death experience during a seven-day coma caused by a severe case of bacterial meningitis. Despite his brain being severely damaged and non-functional by medical standards, Alexander experienced vivid visions of an otherworldly realm.
During his NDE, he described being guided by a being of light, feeling enveloped by an overwhelming sense of love, and encountering a divine presence. When he awoke, he was profoundly changed, no longer dismissing the possibility of consciousness existing beyond the brain. His story has added credibility to the discussion of NDEs, particularly among skeptics and scientists.
**The Common Themes of NDEs ** NDEs share strikingly similar elements across cultures and individuals, which has fueled theories that they may represent a universal aspect of human experience. Some of these common features include: • Out-of-body experiences: A sensation of observing oneself from outside the body, often floating above. • The tunnel of light: Moving through a tunnel toward a radiant, welcoming light. • Feelings of peace and unconditional love: A deep sense of comfort and acceptance. • Encounters with deceased loved ones or spiritual beings: Meetings that feel profoundly real and comforting. • Life review: A panoramic replay of one’s life, accompanied by insights into one’s actions and relationships.
**Scientific and Spiritual Perspectives ** The study of NDEs continues to be a fascinating intersection of science and spirituality. Some scientists argue that NDEs can be explained by physiological processes, such as a lack of oxygen to the brain, surges of neurochemicals, or the brain’s final attempt to make sense of its surroundings as it shuts down. Others, however, point to the consistency of NDE accounts and the vivid, lucid memories of these experiences as evidence of something more profound.
For example, research by cardiologist Dr. Pim van Lommel found that many individuals who had been clinically dead for several minutes reported detailed and coherent NDEs, even when brain activity was absent. These findings challenge materialistic assumptions about consciousness, suggesting that it may not be entirely tied to the brain.
**Amazing Stories of NDEs ** Beyond the work of Dr. Moody and Dr. Alexander, countless other stories reveal the transformative power of NDEs. Take the case of Anita Moorjani, who experienced an NDE during a near-fatal bout with cancer. In her book, Dying to Be Me, Moorjani recounts how she felt transported to a realm of boundless love, where she understood the interconnectedness of all life. Upon returning to her body, she made a miraculous recovery and has since dedicated her life to sharing her experience.
Or consider the story of Mary Neal, an orthopedic surgeon who drowned during a kayaking accident. In her book, To Heaven and Back, Neal describes her journey into a realm of indescribable beauty, where she felt a divine presence and learned profound truths about love and purpose.
**The Transformative Impact of NDEs ** For many, the most significant aspect of an NDE isn’t the experience itself but the lasting change it brings. Those who undergo NDEs often report a complete shift in their perspective on life, becoming less fearful of death, more compassionate, and deeply focused on living a meaningful life. They describe feeling connected to something greater than themselves, with a renewed sense of purpose.
**The Ongoing Mystery ** While science has yet to provide definitive answers about NDEs, their consistency, emotional depth, and transformative impact make them impossible to dismiss. They challenge our understanding of consciousness, death, and the nature of reality. Whether viewed as physiological phenomena, spiritual journeys, or something in between, NDEs continue to inspire awe and curiosity.
Dr. Raymond Moody once wrote, “The question of what happens after death has challenged humanity for millennia.” Through the lens of NDEs, we catch a glimpse of what might lie beyond—a mystery that invites exploration, discussion, and perhaps, a bit of faith.
So, what do you think? Are NDEs a window into another reality or simply the brain’s final act? One thing is certain: the stories of those who have returned from the brink continue to captivate, inspire, and transform the way we think about life, death, and what comes next.

Passo a passo instalação do aplicativo KeepassDX:
-

And now, we have a demonstration of the final result of this tool, with some quick cleaning up. The video we will be using this tool on is titled Nostr Apps 101 by nostr:npub1nxy4qpqnld6kmpphjykvx2lqwvxmuxluddwjamm4nc29ds3elyzsm5avr7 during Nostrasia. The following thread is an analog to the modular articles we are constructing for Alexandria, and I hope it conveys the functionality we want to create in the knowledge space. Note, this tool is the first step! You could use a different prompt that is most appropriate for the specific context of the transcript you are working with, but you can also manually clean up any discrepancies that don't portray the video accurately.

Thinking about it, even the protocol is a cathedral, Rabble in the speech in Riga on Bluesky.
He said the protocol is a bazaar. But you have to converge on the scheme in the NIPs or between Apps.
NIPs for example are like Luther's 95 theses, but they change continuously and adapt, but they always remain those 95.
Maybe that Pr on theother curve keys could lead to saying this is "nostr" these others are similar. Creating more points, but I just think it would have led to endless diatribes.
What will be of the protocol and who knows. He can do everything or maybe nothing and from tomorrow we will see and it will be, it will be what it will be. Italian Song
Notifications with nostter are not hidden, they are in your feed and this is good, you always know if someone has searched for you. While in the others you do not know.
I saw a sliver of light pass by it was Unanimity.
It's a very stupid idea, it takes a long time. it's basically a community + channel, where you post the channel in the community and start talking about that topic in the channel. The channel is an approved message. I made musicbook channel, it's the collection of albums released on Friday. The idea of also making a blogger channel, where to put long-form articles.
Following nostr trending on Openvibe social, with a new profile, the Lost One, sad, in this One follow fiatjaf, means I won't bother him anymore . Now I follow 62 profiles, it's an account that I will use to read the notes of the top profiles. Curious if this number will grow enormously or is there a spectre.
The strength of the protocol is the developers if they collaborate together, otherwise it can still work, everyone goes their own way, but it's like saying I want to make my own fence.
One who in his long form doing an analysis of the various social networks. npub19mq9swna4dkhlm3jaux4yhgv5kjj556lkfhv3qnjtyh0kcljph6s88e295 Nostr is all based on Bitcoin. The difficult thing is Bitcoin not Nostr and he says so.
Controversies are useful, or my doubts, but maybe people who can't write code don't understand much, the so-called end users. No one is an end user at this time. The end user doesn't care about the person behind it, only having their own service, if the service is good they also do promotion, they become sponsors. We have seen in recent months sponsoring a Nostr app, result a small attack can damage that app. But the strength of having all these apps is that the other app doesn't have that problem. Spam attack example. The problem is that you can't sponsor an ecosystem, so it becomes difficult to suggest 10 apps to download. The best 10 apps of Nostr and the other 100, there is no easy way out. It's a bit like proposing a new place in NY, then everyone goes to that place and it loses a bit. What the sponsor must understand is that Nostr has only one "one shot".
I saw a video on Nostr of two people posting content on social media, making a review. Not bad, compared to the previous video, that Nostr doesn't even have a token. It doesn't give me a sign up. The main feature they say is a platform or at least they reviewed damus, damus for Bitcoin maxi. And so Nostr is populated by people who Number go up, only fiat thought they would say on Nostr. It's true in part there are those obsessed, even the non-obsessed are obsessed.
How nice it would be to call them NPs Nostr protocol specification, today supertestnet called them that. (the nice thing is that they are pronounced the same way).

2024-10-11 13:19:29I liked Twitter. News, politics, artists, memes, controversial thoughts that people discuss longer than it deserves. That Twitter wasn't what X is now. Verification doesn't mean anything, it's just an algorithm boost everybody can buy. Crowds of bots leave random overcompressed jpegs in replies to get more attention to get more money for its owner. Somehow it's normal there to want entire nation dead.
I wish it was easy to leave, but it still has hundreds of millions active users. It still has all the memes we like, the controversial thoughts people discuss too much, all the big companies and politicians have to have an account.
I checked out the biggest alternatives to decide where to go. No complicated tech terms ahead, I looked at them as a regular user who just wants to have fun.
TL;DR: Twitter/X is still the most effective and active platform, but if you really want to change it you should take part in transition to another platform and not wait for more people to be there.
Nostr
Decentralized, censorship resistant due to its nature. Of course, it's not perfect and is quite far from reaching its true potential. Out of all the alternatives, Nostr might have the most complicated registration. Do regular users really need to think about public and private keys? Yes, yes, I get it — users have to keep in mind their privacy if they want to have it. But you have to read at least something to understand what you're doing, which is automatically more difficult than simply press "Sign up". And then you have to choose between web clients... And then Android/iOS clients... And some of them might be buggy on your device, so you switch to another client... The flow could be better, but Nostr is a new social network, it keeps improving every day.
After all this, you open an app and see... Bitcoins, AI images, jokes about Elon Musk. And some anarchists. 90% of what you see is people praising Bitcoin. The universal social network protocol turns out to has a pretty narrow view. I guess, the feature of attaching your cryptocurrency wallet made it extremely popular amongst Bitcoiners, but why is it the biggest — and probably the only — community there?
How does one find another community? Hashtags don't seem to work, perhaps because of tiny size of non-Bitcoin communities. Trending is all Bitcoin. I didn't even know it's possible to discuss something that long.
It's close to being decentralized and censorship resistant; you can write and read Twitter-like notes or long posts — whatever you like! But I don't feel comfortable because I'm an alien without a Bitcoin wallet here. It could be a great place for everybody, but now it lacks diversity. It may not even want to be universal. Maybe it's the Bitcoin network and that's fine.
Mastodon
Decentralized, not so censorship resistant but way better than having everything on one company's servers. 500 symbols per post is more than Twitter, but less than long format, it's somewhere in-between. It literally has no feed algorithm, so you have to find people and hashtags you want to follow, and Mastodon won't help. You don't know what it has in the first place? Bad for you.
Sooner or later your feed start to look like one you're actually want to read. And that's when I started to like Mastodon. The UI is neat, everything is in its place and works as expected — you can tell the social network has been here for a while. There are more than 10 million users as of 2023, and it still grows slowly. Mastodon is mature but fresh, and it does scare you away at first glance. Every discussion is serious for some reason, and I'm yet to discover meme accounts to follow. Mastodon is probably the only decentralized social network on this list which has at least some officials registered here.
Bluesky
If you want to move back in time to see the old Twitter again — take a look at Bluesky. Everything is literally the same as Twitter, and it actually might be both a blessing and a curse. It seems to lack its identity and feels not like something new, but like uninhabited, decentralized Twitter.
There is a feed algorithm that shows you a mix of viral and recent posts, so you don't have a desert feeling (which sometimes occurs in Mastodon). Bluesky was launched in open access to the public in February 2024 and has reached 10 millions already. There is nothing serious about it — memes, shitposts, random thoughts put in 300 symbols. People barely use hashtags here, one would probably find something interesting or funny just scrolling the feed.
Threads
It's weird and soulless. You can't create a Threads account without an Instagram one, so you have to use both while Meta collects a huge amount of data about you. It just doesn't feel great.
You can't ignore the power of a big corporation — the experience is smooth, the UI is nice, and I personally like the little curl every thread has. And what do you see scrolling the feed? AI images and ridiculously serious inspirational quotes with a beach at the background. They're all different, but none of them makes sense. Do people actually discuss something? Not really. You just post pretty images just like you did on Instagram. And those are beautiful, you can't take that from Instagram userbase, so your feed looks absolutely incredible. And empty. There is nothing wild — no hot takes, no fresh jokes, everything is sterile and correct. It feels dead despite having over 175 million monthly active users.
UPD: Threads decided you don't want to read any politics and then disabled a lot of accounts because their AI moderation went insane, apparently.
UPD2: Threads now has an engagement bait problem.
Tumblr
Yeah, yeah, I know, but hear me out. Tumblr looks interesting for creative communities where people have fun. It goes from the cringiest actor gifs to a detailed book subplot analysis. Your posts don't disappear in the void thanks to hashtag search. There is also a feed algorithm to spend time. If you're really into discussing weirdest story and fanfiction ideas, that's the default social network for you.
But.
It's also owned by a company that can do everything it wants. And it actually did.
UPD: I'd been using Tumblr for a week, wrote two posts, liked and reposted a few times, and then my account got terminated for seemingly no reason. Maybe they found something wrong in those two posts, I don't know. I'm not that type of person who would publish anything even remotely aggressive, both posts were about SFW writing tropes.
Conclusion
There is no perfect platform to move to. If one of them had a clear advantage and/or a big userbase, many people would move there with no hesitation. But the situation is different, there is no obvious preferable social network to stick with. The vast majority stays on X trying to ignore the weird stuff. If we really want to have better and safer social networks, we should encourage competition and migration. All the X alternatives lack communities people would like to join, whereas it should be friendly and welcoming to all. Not the criminals, obviously.
My personal favorite is Nostr, but right now Bluesky seems the most convenient option.
P.S. Sorry for mistakes, English is not my native language. This post is not supposed to be some serious analysis, it's just another internet rant.

\ SimplySarah: Let’s start by learning a little background on Lace. What is your food story?
\ Lace: Food for me runs in my veins. My family is from Jamaica and my grandmother began cooking as a girl. She brought her recipes with her to the UK in the 1950s and cooks the most delicious dishes. My mother has been a professional chef for over 40 years. Family meals at Christmas were always a big deal. However, it wasn't until 18, I began cooking at university where I vowed my children would know how to cook a healthy meal and not end up like the people around me living on take out and micro meals. As a student, I just recreated things I ate at home and when I was unsure, I'd call my mum or my grandmother for help. When I had kids, I put them in the kitchen at age 2 and my eldest, now 15, is an incredible chef. We are also well traveled and always enjoying local cuisine which also inspires our cooking.
SimplySarah: That is a lovely background. It seems it was a natural progression to want to get into writing cookbooks. I understand you are working on your second currently, but let's backtrack and talk about how the first one came to life.
Lace: It would seem so. I always wanted to write a book but a cookbook wasn't what I thought I would write first 😅 And yes, the second is coming next year, a co-authored book. The first, came about because of Facebook, actually. Admittedly, I am one of those people who posts food pictures. And my Facebook followers began asking me for my recipes all the time. And I would write them out... and then decided it made more sense to write them once inside a book and sell it. Hence Lace's Bad Ass Yard Food was born.

SimplySarah: That's an awesome title! What IS Bad Ass Yard Food?
Lace: Hahaha, thank you! Yard food is what we (as Jamaicans in my family) call our cuisine. Yard food. Yard means home. So it's basically great homemade food. Typically, this is things like Curry Chicken, Fry Fish, Jerk Chicken, Rice and Peas, Hard Food (yam, dumplings and green bananas) and many other things.
SimplySarah: All those dishes sound phenomenal. If you had a go-to dish from the first cookbook what would you select? Maybe something that is always served on a weekly or regular basis at your home?
Lace: Oh they are! My favorite is curry goat. Curry Chicken has got to be the go to, I still cook it weekly now! And no matter where I've lived in the world, I can always prepare it.

SimplySarah: Funny, I believe you just posted on Nostr that you were in the process of making curry chicken if I recall correctly. Is the next cookbook following the same roots? Or are you and your partner exploring different cuisines?
Lace: That's right! I did just post that curry on Nostr. The next book is going to feature 8 of my favorite recipes. Some will be Jamaican but I also happen to love Asian inspired dishes and have some European favorites too which will be featured. This will be the first time I'm sharing non Caribbean dishes. As for me and my boyfriend, he is Colombian and an ex-military Chef. He has been sharing his food with us and has been enjoying eating food from different regions for the first time as a result of meeting me. It's great fun to bond through food.

SimplySarah: Is he the co-author you are speaking about?
\ Lace: Nope. The other Authors of the book are all entrepreneurs who love food. The first edition will be available in november, it's called Made with Love. I will be featured in the second coming 2025.
SimplySarah: Oh, nice! How did you get tapped into this project?
Lace: Again, my facebook network. I was chatting with a lady who is a self made millionaire about money. She checked out my fb profile and said.. ohh I love your cooking videos, what a fun way to market (my tech business) and then invited me to check out the cookbook project and be part of it. And just like that I was in.
SimplySarah: Facebook definitely brings a lot of people together based on their favorite topics. Now that you are exploring Nostr and have such an incredible background with culinary arts, what do you hope to achieve here on this social protocol?
Lace: Yes, socials are great for that! Honestly, I just want to connect with folks who love great food and are into self development, natural living, love travel and sovereignty. On my second day on Nostr, I met you, a fellow foodie, so it's certainly working out well so far. :) And without all the ads and other crap fb force on it's users
SimplySarah: Personally, I am super thrilled you have joined Nostr. We need more foodies, and I love nerding out about anything food related, especially the food travel stories. I would absolutely love to follow your food journey, and I think all the Nostr foodies should too. Where can everyone find you, follow you, and maybe buy a cookbook?
Lace: Yay! Thank you. I love talking about food, cooking, sharing food, buying ingredients and trying food. You can find me on Facebook - the loved and hated, Nostr, and my personal website. There's no fancy sales page for the cookbook yet! 11 of my Jamaican recipes in one cute ebook :) I'm coming over to Zap Cooking too.
SimplySarah: One day you will be Nostr Only and forget all about Facebook. Haha! We look forward to having you on Zap.Cooking. We have a lot of ideas in the works and would love for you to be involved! I have one final question. First, I want to thank you for taking your time to spend your Saturday morning with me. This was fun. You mentioned you put your children in the kitchen at an early age. I'm a big fan of teaching kids life skills when they are young. Do you have any tips for parents to help them in the kitchen with their children?
Lace: I'm sure that will happen. My fb network has been instrumental in my success and surviving the rough time in my travel. Do tell me all about your ideas for Zap, I'd love to see how I can be involved!
Yes, tips for parents, When kids are eating solids, feed them home cooked meals, no jars, no processed stuff, healthy, varied, adventurous meals you eat. If you're eating octopus, let ‘em try. If you're eating veg, let them try. If you're eating chicken liver pate, let them try. Encourage a varied diet and pallet. Then at 2, get them in the kitchen. Let them peel garlic cloves, add herbs to meat, make meatballs, mix and taste things. Invite them to cook everyday. And have fun with it!
It's been my pleasure to spend time with you this Saturday morning Sarah. Thank YOU.
