A number of things I’ve heard and have posted have made me think I’m not a very good marketer. I’ve posted on God having ultimate authority and therefore being able to control our every decision, that we should look to share in Jesus’s persecution, and other equally unpopular ideas. I seek to write the truth and to follow God’s leading, but sometimes it seems like a terrible way to grow a substack.
Yesterday I was working with my special needs son on his Awana Trek Bible lesson. We were studying Luke 9:57-62.
“57As they were going along the road, someone said to Him, “I will follow You wherever You go.” 58And Jesus said to him, “The foxes have holes and the birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay His head.” 59And He said to another, “Follow Me.” But he said, “Lord, permit me first to go and bury my father.” 60But He said to him, “Allow the dead to bury their own dead; but as for you, go and proclaim everywhere the kingdom of God.” 61Another also said, “I will follow You, Lord; but first permit me to say good-bye to those at home.” 62But Jesus said to him, “No one, after putting his hand to the plow and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.””
The first man said, “I will follow You wherever You go.” What was Jesus’s reply? “The foxes have holes and the birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay His head.” To translate into modern English, Jesus said, “I’m homeless. If you follow me, you will be homeless, too.”
Jesus said to the second man, “Follow Me.” When this man replied, “Lord, permit me first to go and bury my father,” Jesus replied, “Allow the dead to bury their own dead.”
When a third man said, “I will follow You, Lord; but first permit me to say good-bye to those at home” Jesus replied, “No one, after putting his hand to the plow and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.”
Jesus cared more about truth in advertising and letting people know the good, the bad, and the ugly about choosing to follow Him.
I like to think my poor marketing is just me following Jesus’s example. I will always write what I feel led to write by my reading of the Bible and leading of the Spirit, even if that means my substack shrinks. God knows who needs to hear what I’ve written and will bring those who need to hear it. It isn’t about being popular (although I’ll admit I always get a rush when I get a new subscriber), but about being faithful to God and His word.

Just like a rapist tries to tell its victim that this arrangement is beneficial and necessary for the victim, and that it is only "fair" that this arrangement continue, so too do democrats tell their colleagues that society needs to maintain this arrangement and institution of plunder and monopolized ultimate decision making.
The rape gang wants control of its victim, and control is most easily maintained by reducing the victim's chances of successfully advocating for his or her own freedom with a potential protector. The gang is more satisfied when few potential protectors who would even believe the victim's concerns to be legitimate exist, and is most satisfied when even the victim is not a potential protector of her own body and liberties, believing the lies of her abuser.

I think there will be many models in consumer mining. There will of course be hosting solutions (though these can easily be or become malicious). There will be solutions like Bitaxe - which are very expensive in terms of $/Th but the philosophical benefit is that bitaxe is open source. Then there are the solutions that Canaan has made (branded as small space heaters that mine Bitcoin), these presently give the best $/Th but they are certainly not open source. I expect more companies to come out with similar products as it gives an opportunity to resell very old chips at WILD margins relative to what the industrial industry can accept. The risk for this segment in a vacuum is that it never becomes more than a hobbyist niche (where buyers are not strictly concerned with rationality of profit). However, this is where opportunities arise to really lean into the “heater that mines bitcoin” for things like water heaters and the heating element in home HVAC systems.
I’m running a Bitaxe and 3 Canaan Avalon Nano3 (with 3 Nano 3S on the way in Feb). I’m having fun with this, but it’s certainly not profitable at my present assumed power costs.

2025-01-16 20:53:30
Yeah, I just find it weird when software engineers attempt to demonize software engineering, as if it were a dark art.
People hear "algo" and freak out, but it's the basic building block of software programs. An application is literally only data and algos. 🤷🏻♀️ That's what software _is_ and removing too much algo leaves the user staring at an endless feed of Odell saying GM.

-
2025-01-16 20:52:36
Absolutely not.
miners definitely run nodes like you mentioned in a comment, but node runners ultimately control the decisions because they decide what is a valid transaction and whether or not to broadcast said transaction.
If you make a fork that nobody adopts and it's just your mining pool, running that fork and the rest of the network says to bug off, your transactions are invalid, then you get a Bitcoin Cash / BSV scenario.

you can use nip-46 with amber via a localhost relay too
-
2025-01-16 20:49:20
There's a lot of data that could be considered private that you might want to store on relays. The examples given in that particular post are eCash tokens, encrypted to a specific npub, and medical records.
Other examples might be private notes, bookmarks, and virtually anything else you wouldn't want available to just anyone.
Now, why would someone want to store this information on relays, rather than storing it locally?
One reason might be redundancy. These are records you may want to have backed up so they aren't lost in the case of fire or flood.
Another reason might be ease of remote access. Relays can already be accessed by all of your devices, regardless of whether you are connecting via your local network. If you have the know-how, you can also set up a relay that is only accessible via Tor.
