Wait... Nodes provide "micro work" to the block? No. They don't. They contribute ZERO work to finding a block. Not even a little. No reward due to them whatsoever.
-
I am not saying "(light) node pay (light) node each other" but miners distribute based on a proof of micro work a micro share of their block reward to nodes thatare legit - maybe randomly.
-
There is no benefit that you provide to the network by running your node that all other nodes on the network don't equally provide to you. Hence, there is nothing to pay you for, unless someone who is NOT running their own node is relying on your node in order to access the network. In that case you absolutely could charge them to do so, but that would be on you to decide whether or not to charge for that service, and how much.
-
True, no proof there - that is why I am asking for a criteria to identify them - to proof it.
Since work is being done. Not as much as is being done through mining but still it is work.
I am unable to follow on the singular "only for you" rhetoric here. Sure I do it for me but also for the network.
-
Not unless I start using someone else's node, I don't, and then, yes, they could charge me a fee for its use if they so chose.
If my node is booted from the network, then I either need to find a way to get it reconnected, or I need to use someone else's, and only then do they have a legitimate reason to be paid for the service.
If my peers are booted from the network, my node will find new peers. And again, my node is providing exactly the same benefit to my peers as they are to me, so there is no reason any of us should pay the others.
-
You may benefit from them if your node and its peers are cut off from the network?
-
There is no POW, so its vulnerable to sybil. Plus like nostr:nprofile1qywhwumn8ghj7erfddskjmmnxy6nzdewdehhxarjxyhxxmmd9uq3samnwvaz7tmxd9k8getj9ehx7um5wgh8w6twv5hszythwden5te0dehhxarj9emkjmn99uq3kamnwvaz7tmjv4kxz7fwvfexjemgw33x7mr59ehx2ap0qys8wumn8ghj7un9d3shjtnzwf5kw6r5vfhkcapwdejhgtmfde3x77qpr9mhxue69uhhwmm59e38y6t8dp6xymmvwshxuet59uqzpde8f55w86vrhaeqmd955y4rraw8aunzxgxstsj7eyzgntyev2xtz675kl said, you run it for *your* protection, which only protects the network by extension of everyone protecting themselves. By itself and without a bitcoiner using it defensively nodes don't have much value some minor caveats here).
This is why one person spinning up 10,000 nodes is meaningless.
-
Yes. Now, who benefits from those legit nodes? I benefit from my own, so no one should pay me to run it. Anyone using someone else's node may benefit from that node, and the operator may charge for its use or not charge. That's up to them.
-
"actually transacting" sounds misleading here.
As I wrote initially, it should be legit nodes of course. 1 million legit nodes are much more stable than 20K.
-
It's not about the sheer number of nodes, though. 100 billion nodes that no one uses for actually transacting doesn't protect the network from anything.
-
Thank you very much
-
Mining requires specialized hardware these days. Your general purpose GPU or CPU cannot keep up with the SHA256 specific ASIC chips, so you wouldn't earn anything at all mining with your regular PC.
Snag a little Bitaxe if you want to dip your toes in and see what mining is all about. They make great conversation starters, too.
-
Can I get started with a dedicated PC or do I have to use specialized equipment?
-

It is perfectly clear to me how the network works and why Lightning Routing will be paid.
The amount of nodes in the network is a measure of distribution. The more nodes we have the more robust it is against attacks. I was thinking of rewarding that aspect. It should be also in the interest of miners or any other participant.
-
Sweet! You won’t make a fortune, but it’s fun and you’ll be contributing to the security of the Bitcoin network. 🤙🧡⚡️

Take a look at my post …;) I am
Coming …

Thanks, please let me know how we could make it better for you!

Currently, nostr-relay-tray doesn't actively pull events. This is one of the features I'm working on. Since not everyone has the ability or desire to expose their local service to the internet, the ability to pull events from public relays is necessary.
From my observation, there seems to be a broadcast service in the nostr network. This might be why you're seeing events from others in your relay.
-
Legend. Thank you!
-
Can confirm, dead simple.
-
Awesome. I was 100% looking for a GUI.
I remember failing miserably at trying to run the booger relay?
I hope this one is easier to setup.
-
I am not sure exactly how the client filters out notes from those on your mute list, and each client may work differently there.
It could be that they pull all notes on your read relays into the local cache, and then purge any that are authored by your muted npubs, or they may ask the relay to only send notes from nouns that don't match your mute list, so that those notes just never hit your local cache.
My guess is the former, though, since #Amethyst will tell me when a quoted note is hidden because it was authored by someone I have muted. Seems to me it would only know that if it had received the note from the relays into the local cache.
I am sure a client could choose to ignore your mute list altogether. But they don't, because they know everyone would drop their client in a heartbeat.
-
I had thought that maybe the client was doing mute filtering once on pulling from the relays into a local cache, rather than filtering when reading the cache.
-
Ah, I see that despite clicking "Mute User" and approving the modal multiple times, this npub is not getting added to my mute list.
Was doing it via the web app. Just did it again from iOS Primal App and it was added to the mute list.
-
It should mute them completely, for you. It's just that on Nostr that's all "mute" means. The notes from that npub are still there on the relays, your client just shouldn't display them to you anymore. Anyone else who hasn't muted that npub will still see them, though.
-
Ok I thought it blocked and muted the npub completely.. I understand some may slip thru when they shitpost nonstop and we are on the same relays..
-
Mute lists just tell the client not to display notes from that npub to you, so it should work retroactively on old notes from that npub, too.
-
They try, but they can't fool WoT.
-

How does one mute a user and have it work retroactively on (already cached?) notes ?
-
I got one of those too.
-
There's other valid currencies that can be used in cold storage too.
But yes, having solid wallets like foundation that prioritize better cryptocurrency projects is perhaps ideal.

Rape him

Fire, flood, the elements in general.

I don't know of any alternative cache relays to Primal's.
-
Exactly. so primal fuckn my mute button so is fuckn amethyst app.. do you know of any cache relays?

🥰😁😁😁

You have to weigh the chances of something happening against how destructive it would be if that something did happen. A new hard drive is what, $30? Is that worth potentially protecting your whole stack from being targeted, not to mention if your wife and kids are home when they come looking for it?
If we went by the logic of the chances of a thing happening as the only consideration, then no one has any reason to carry a firearm, because the chances of needing to use it are "super minimal."
-
🤜🤛
-
That might be a fun little project actually. Good idea!
-
You can always throw Linux on the old laptop. That’s a whole lot of fun to learn. More private than Windows and Mac too.
-
The chances of anything happening is super super minimal. Zero out the drive a few times if you are super autistic
-
That’s an idea. Hadn’t thought of that. Thanks!
-
He's considering selling the laptop to someone, with the drive he's been using going along with it. It would not be a matter of how important he is, but rather a potential target of opportunity.
-
That would secure your btc. Its true they could find where you sent it though. Why not keep the laptop as a backup for btc stuff?
-
Yep, then you don't have to worry anymore.
-
In reality, you can just format it and throw it away.
You are not that important
-
The small amount of fiat I’d get for my old laptop is not worth sacrificing my peace of mind and potentially doxxing myself and my stack in the worst case scenario. Appreciate your insight as always my friend!
-
Hard drives aren't expensive. It's probably worth going full paranoid if you have any question about it and just replace the drive and let your buyer install whatever OS they want on the fresh drive.
-
Destroying the drive is always the answer if you have sensitive information on it. I suppose you just need to decide how sensitive you think your xpub is, since it doxxes the size of your stack, which could make you a target.
Anyone who recovered your xpub from that drive would know exactly how much Bitcoin you have associated with the private key on your Jade, and they would know that you have a hardware wallet, since the keys were not on the laptop. That would give them a significant amount of information to go on if they decided it was worth breaking in to find your hardware wallet.
That's without taking into consideration any other sensitive data you may have had on your laptop that hasn't been a part of this conversation already.
-
I have a Sparrow + Jade combo. My keys have always remained offline and have never been on my old laptop. This is why I don’t understand the destroy the drive answers I’m getting. My current keys are secure and offline. Yes, if the drive was restored, they could find the public address I sent my stack to but like you said, they wouldn’t have access to my keys.
-
If they did recover the info on the drive, they would now know your addresses that the Bitcoin was sent to. Wouldn't give them access to it, but if your keys aren't on the laptop right now, they also wouldn't have access. You're using a hardware wallet with Sparrow, right? Sparrow isn't holding your keys hot, I hope?
-
That’s true
Scary indeed
-
One more question. What if I made a new cold storage on the Mac and moved the holdings. New keys and wallet data that never touches the old device. I could then wipe the old laptop and sell it like I would like to do. Or is a demo day for the drive still in my future?
-
Unfortunately, the threat-vector of some asshole figuring out you are a Bitcoiner who likely has enough of a stack to make it worth their while is a very real one. That is going to be the case with any notable asset of value, freedom money or not.
-
Destroy the drive.
I remember when the credit union I worked for in Western Washington had to get rid of old server drives, they would have a range day. 🤣
-
Yea definitely not a one size fit all but it just seems like 95% of Nostr is talking to a meme behind the screen. Holding bitcoin doesn’t seem like freedom anymore if you have to hide yourself.
Obviously I’m not saying give all your info out there, that’s silly but yea it’s nice to see a few human faces.
-

You could set up npub.pro, even hosting your own, and import all your existing content from your Ghost blog, rather than the other way around, importing the Nostr content to Ghost.

😂😂😂
-
Really appreciate your message. Thanks. I love it when I see happy users support a business and product
Honestly, I read all notifications, and emails, and I never saw anything about the wallet changing
Anyways their support has been in touch, so I am sure I can sort it out
-
We use Ghost themes, and we have a tool to import content from Ghost, but no Nostr->Ghost cross-posting yet.
-
Me too.
-
Usually Primals caching relay is pretty good at getting a fuller picture of the activity than you get reading from your own relay set, because the caching relay is pulling from SO MANY more relays, but it may be having some issues, because it doesn't seem to be displaying some events posted to relays I know it pulls from. Something's probably broken.
-
This legacy API is no longer recommended . Some recommend Ising connection instead if unstable _noStore
here is how to do
import { unstable_noStore as noStore } from 'next/cache';
export default async function ServerComponent() {
noStore();
const result = await db.query(...);
...
} nostr:note1u29y57pv5j0fwcljz667wj0f9aaqnmwlvw7lsvk239agn4mm6xysce82mz
-
Thank you for your solutions .I appreciated it.
-
Step by step, I can do. 🫡
-
there's a step by step how to in the docs. once you know how to, the freedom will set you free 😉

You scare me with the "build it yourself" language. Not a coder here. lol
-
Oh LOL i see nostr:nprofile1qyt8wumn8ghj7cn9wehjumn0wd68yvfwvdhk6tcpz9mhxue69uhkummnw3ezuamfdejj7qgjwaehxw309ahx7um5wgerztnrdakj7qpq0npj3gydmv40m70ehemmal6vsdyfl7tewgvz043g54p0x23y0s8qsfwsa6 answered much more succinctly hehe
-
No its better to build it yourself. wait until V1.0 LNbits comes out and build from scratch on your hardware. I really strongly suggest you do this instead of depending on someone else's build because they will always fall behind.
-
I mean it gives you tits, shrinks your balls and makes you cry for a week a month

Just have to use the big words. Don't ya? 🤷
-
Levender is highly phytoestrogenic
-
Cool thanks friends! I already have that client. 😂
-
Actually, I am thinking of a Tea Tree Tallow, and a Lavender Tallow. But going to be awhile before ready for sale.
-
If you ever release anything lavender scented, my wife will authorize the spending of sats in a heartbeat.
-
I'm honored 🙏 I'm about to expand as well. Going to be experimenting with colors and scents.
-
Definitely like it! Will be back for more!
-
Thank you for your support 💕🙏. How is it? Do you like it?
-
Thank YOU for my soap!
-
Ok, let me give this some thought. I'm a little slow at times. Thank you for your tutelage.🫡🫂
-
nsec.app is in the browser, right? Should be able to just log into nsec.app from your Android instead, then copy/paste your ncryptsec to Amber.
-
Why not just use Damus
Zap zap zap script n Zeus?
-
😭
-
Kinds are how the data is classified, so that a client knows what do do with it, if anything at all. For instance, if your profile note wasn't a different kind from regular text notes, a client might display it in the main feed each time you update it.
How data is distributed is by posting notes to various relays, regardless of their kind, though some relays do restrict what note kinds can be posted to them.
-
Dangit. They're using a stupid apple
-
So, if I am understanding in a more simplistic manner. Kinds are just ways of how the data is distributed? Or is that wrong?
-
This nsec is on an iPhone and I think I can move it to amber on my droid with out having to type out my nsec?
-
I'll keep an eye out! Thank you!
-
The big problem with its use is that applications are not prepared to use single relays or post to specific relays. It quickly becomes confusing and several notes are sent from your relay with content from your relay.
-
I’ve looked for number 4 alone and struggled to find anything substantial. Might have to build my own front end for a solution that checks my other boxes. Which will be terrible for anyone else who wants to use it because I’m a minimalism absolutist AND a terrible programmer 😶🌫️
-
I'm implementing something very close to this. But it's in its early stages and will take some time to become available.
-
Sorry, #2 should be "Allows those who are followed by the folks I am following to post to it." That is, WoT level 2.
-
Will play with it some more today and see how it goes. Was working for me yesterday afternoon as well, certainly way more reliably than NIP-46 via Amber. Wonder if we can dial in on why this is working well while Amber can be finicky.
-
Yeah, since edits aren't supported by any other client, it is best to think of them as simply not being a thing for the time being.
Sure, make the edit for the sake of your own OCD on Amethyst, but understand that the majority of users will still be seeing the original version.
Even if we do get edits in the future, something to understand is that someone could still end up seeing the pre-edited version, because your edit may not make it out to as many relays as the original post.
Same thing goes for deletion requests.
-
You bet! I've been using Alby Hub since it was first available for nostr:nprofile1q9z8wue69uhnvmr9dp58jernwf6xsct8d45hxdn4w5m8gatrdej8v7nhxa3h2cnsw94ksanc09unw6n0d9hkxdp4d44hxu35v4skgtn0de5k7m30qy88wumn8ghj7mn0wvhxcmmv9uq3zamnwvaz7tmwdaehgu3wwa5kuef0qyd8wumn8ghj7mn0wd68ytn6v43x2er9v5hxxmr0w4jz7qg4waehxw309aex2mrp0yhxgctdw4eju6t09uq3wamnwvaz7tmjv4kxz7fwdehhxarj9e3xzmny9uq3wamnwvaz7tmjv4kxz7fwdehhxarj9e5kuen09uqzq44xkafh8j8hhy79809wsmv0lw46nu4pkwqjyp20ekml80mytde8e2sa8d , so I have figured out a few tricks along the way. It makes being an Uncle Jim (or Auntie Jane) for your friends and family incredibly easy.
-
It's like Fedimint, but for your Nostr signing... Sure, it's not self-custody, but it's still a massive improvement over the status quo of a single entity owning your identity. All for it! Especially since those of us who want 100% control of our keys can still do so.
-
To be fair, I have tried using NIP-46 signing with Amber and it is spotty at best right now. Sometimes Amber receives the signing request, but the client never receives the response. Sometimes Amber just never receives the request in the first place. But occasionally it works as intended, and it's absolutely magical! So, need to figure out how to have the latter be the consistent experience.
NIP-55 signing with Amber is always quite consistent, though. We'll need some kind of similar spec that works on iOS.
-
I am only on Android, so I am not sure what is available with relay selection options that are quite so robust as Amethyst.
