We're actually building really fast. It just doesn't seem like it because the project is so gigantic and covers n interfaces, clients, protocols, relays, servers, programming languages, etc.
#Alexandria is the biggest Nostr project, by far, both in team size and scope and possible use cases. With the smallest budget. 🫣
Just hard to get the people holding the big pots of money to care, so we're sort of stuck passing around the hat. 😅 We aren't really putting more focus on funding until after Gutenberg, tho. Need the MVP and the PoCs, to really sell it. It's still too abstract. We try to explain what we're building and everyone is just like, Why don't you just add zaps to PDFs? 🤔

well, i'm dedicated to making the actual decentralised business use case with nostr happen
and i'm very responsive to the specifications of what that entails, and probably i could say that some of the reason why i'm going a bit slow is because people literally don't seem to get it and they are running off ahead to chase after some new rainbow far beyond the horizon
and i think this is a really big problem for nostr, but it's not just nostr, the whole society is losing its bearings
my fiat mine gig is ok, i'm going to deliver what they need and they are getting good consultation about what is practical, but really, the entire "crypto" scene is completely off the map also, this whole AI shit meanwhile almost nobody hardly can even understand
like, i literally today asked the middleware/smart contract dev for a simple thing - to have their database contain a simple field that tells me the newest update of a whole user's profile data, just the newest of all of the pieces
it was like, "omg i can't understand why you need to have a replica of the data" and i tried to explain to them that to do an analysis of the entire userbase comparing them all to each other is an (N-1)N number of operations, it's like, gah, do you know what a "square" is, you know, in mathematics?
yeah, that's the slope of the incline towards the hell we are at, at this moment, literally people think you can't have a distributed system without even two copies of a database
...
really? they think that the replication probem is solved?

To put it bluntly, you should never put your node on a public IP
But if you want to access it from anywhere, you have to do that
or;
- use LNC (lightning node connect)
- use tor bridge like IP2TOR (but tbh I think I'm the cause of breaking IP2TOR last year [sry])
- reverse proxy
Can't have it both ways without some sacrifice
Hard truth is, If you really care about privacy, spinup a second node in the cloud.
Tailscale is 90% FOSS. Only part that is not is how they connect their servers. Which you can actually run yourself if you don't trust tailscale checkout HeadScale on github.
Its only free for a limited amount of users & devices. They offer a paid plan for more features.

i needed to have some time out this afternoon and went and got a steak and chippy and salad, and a way too big glass of wine
i talked a lot with the brother of the nice girl who works at the shop, the boy and the girl are children of one of the ladies who run the place
got a lot of good info about how to move next and stay here in this funny little vilage, and a good driving school to get my driver's license so i can get a cheap little 125cc bike to scoot around this island, gonna follow that up, and also, line up my next place, with a bathtub, where i can bring my precious kitty with me
i also met some of the crazy people who live here in this village, and watched one go off for no reason and cause a fuss
funny
this is normal, i guess, but my long interaction with one of the people yielded lots of stories about how far down the toilet this society at large is
he was maybe 10 years older than me, but also childless, and busy with some blog and writing career, his business something to do with reporting the state of affairs on this island
based on what i've seen, his stories all fit into the picture very neatly but it's tragic, really tragic what is going on in the world, as he pointed out, almost nobody who is living here under the age of about ... 40...
the place is ded, but the whole society is ded because the number of humans under the age of 30 is now collapsing so fast it's obscene
people are starting to realise there is a really serious problem

I don't know how different Lightning Network wallets work internally. So, I checked how my "deposits" to my Phoenix wallet appear in the blockchain, and it's not good - I can track every single "deposit" I've ever made. The problem is that if someone wants to pay you onchain, that person can see all your deposits too. It is similar to reusing an address. This means that you, and only you, should deposit and it would be convenient to do not create change or pay in a coinjoin.

Hmm. I just tested sending myself a DM from an account I set up on Primal for testing purposes, and I received it on Nostrudel without issue, BUT it took a while for Nostrudel to load my DMs in general. Also, make sure you have it set to Global if you aren't following the person who is DMing you.
Also confirmed that Nostrudel is still NIP-04 DMs, not NIP-17. None of my NIP-17 conversations show up at all. This means Primal and Nostrudel are both still using the same (outdated and deprecated) standard, so there should be no issues as long as you are reading DMs from relays they are writing to.

Tailscale is its own VPN. You can only use one VPN at a time on a device.
I run mullvad as well. When accessing tailscale, you need to turn off mullvad, and turn on tailscale (turn off one VPN & use another)
Their VPN routes through the UK, where they are based.
My testing has showed that when I turn off mullvad, and do not turn on tailscale, my network traffic still routes through the UK VPN, so I'm still not disclosing my current IP (which is great)
The only way I've found to use mullvad & tailscale at the same time, is to setup your devices tailscale IP to a domain you own.
- very easy to do, and again free.
