Personally I don’t see lightning as a ‘convenience’ at all. It’s an upgrade. It’s absolutely essential to me and how I interact with the network. I literally couldn’t use Bitcoin in 2025 without it.
But to each their own, there’s no one forcing anyone else to use it! 🤙

I’m a believer in having the same lunch every work day (and no breakfast), then listening to your body and refine it over time. Improving macros, micros, price. Does it keep you full, but no food coma? Does it give you focus? Cheap? Fast to do? This sallad has been working great for me (also always have an apple right after resistance training, then lunch):
- 3 boiled eggs
- 100g low fat cottage cheese
- 1 tomato
- 100g cucumber
- 20g raw onion
- 10g virgin olive oil
- 5g balsam vinegar
- 10g caviar/fish eggs
- 5g pumpkin seeds
- 1 brazil nut
- 5g walnuts
- 1g nutritional yeast
- salt, black pepper & cayenne

yeah its just me and lucasmerlin from egui who has tackled this problem. I have successfully*ish* hooked up text input from GameActivity (android-activity) to winit to egui.
Once i fix these remaining issues i can start to try to upstream this stuff. Once i do egui will start to be a more serious option for mobile cross platform dev.
This is pretty huge because there are not many immediate mode non-web rust app dev frameworks that are truly cross platform.
Having it in winit will mean any app framework that uses winit to manage its windowing will have input from android and ios as well. This is surprisingly still not supported.

I’d definitely recommend to open at least one more channel for redundancy. GL learning lightning is a process and takes some time to understand. Lots of noderunners out there happy to offer advice and answer questions if you get stuck!

The two only features missing are:
- sharing relay sets among contacts
- outbox model for the following feed (arguably there should not be a following feed at all, but if you have one it must support outbox otherwise it's an attack on Nostr)

Flawed? Imperfect, sure. But so is Bitcoin base layer as well. It’s all technological trade offs at this point but still massively improving all the time.
It’s pretty amazing actually that if a node goes down the entire network continues to function. LN unlocks a ton of potential (near instant settlement, etc) that base-layer Bitcoin never can.

I‘ve been using LaCie products so far and can recommend them. Be sure to choose one with the high-speed connection your Mac supports. I usually get my ideas on Apple Store (where you can enter the type of Mac you use and it will show you compatible devices) and then buy the disks elsewhere, e.g. Amazon 😉

Not sure why you say tied up? It’s still fully self-custodial. You can close a channel at any moment, there is no lock up at all.
It’s simply how decentralization works. Same reason we want multiple nodes and multiple miners on the base layer. Multiple nodes and multiple channels per node is what makes LN decentralized and amazingly robust! Any one node on the network can go down and I can still transact flawlessly.
If someone is relying on a single channel and complaining when it goes down, it’s not a fault of the network itself.

can already tell android dev is going to be a pain in the ass. On my pixel phone when i tap ‘a’ it sends two ‘a’s. on my galaxy tablet it sends one. Exact same code.
I’m logging at the lowest levels, directly from the native GameActivity apis.
All i’m doing is registering a callback for when there is text input. GameActivity calls me twice when i press a key, first with an ‘a’ and then again with ‘aa’. ahhh. not even ai is helping with this one.
I guess next step is to look at the android source code to see why this is happening. At least it’s cool you can do that. but still 😩 nostr:note1rh933wgf99qf3v7r4sl9p93jh9xl45kygqzy6thau93wyy0m2mss23er04
